California is the fifth-largest economy in the world and the birthplace of globally influential creative industries—from film and design to tech and music. And yet, we rank well below the national average when it comes to providing access to arts education in our public schools. Only 39% of California students have access to the full range of arts courses required by state law. That’s not just a statistic—that’s a systemic failure. The research is unequivocal: Arts education improves academic performance, reduces dropout rates, supports mental health, and fosters the kind of creative problem-solving that our future demands. These are not luxuries. They are essentials. And yet we continue to underfund, undervalue, and overlook arts programs—particularly in low-income and marginalized communities. This lawn sign is more than a message. It’s a signal. A quiet act of resistance. A public statement that says: We know the data. We see the gap. We’re not okay with the status quo. If you believe that every child deserves access to creative expression, critical thinking, and a full human education—not just test scores—then join us. Put one of these signs in your yard. Let your neighbors, your school board, and your community know that you stand for something bigger. Now available in the Create CA store. Because arts are essential—and evidence backs it up. https://lnkd.in/eq3XizC9

Create CA and WestEd are partnering on a statewide research study to better understand the impact of Proposition 28 funding on arts and music education in California. If you’re involved in arts education, we want to hear from you. We’re surveying arts education leaders—including district and school site administrators, VAPA coordinators, arts teachers, nonprofit and community arts providers, and others—to assess how Prop 28 is shaping the arts education landscape. Your insights and experiences are essential to building a comprehensive statewide picture. The survey takes just 10–15 minutes to complete, and your responses will remain confidential. By sharing your voice, you’ll help inform how arts education evolves across California. Please complete the survey and share it with your colleagues in arts education at the link below! https://lnkd.in/gFu7_TiG Survey open: March–June 2025 Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts Led by WestEd, a nonpartisan research and development agency

Thank you, Senator Allen, for introducing SCR 32! This measure proclaims March 2025 Arts Education Month and urges all residents to become interested in and fully support quality arts education programs. We need more elected officials to understand and champion arts education, so we ask you to use our handy tool to let your leaders know you care about this issue and urge them to do their part in making sure every child has access to arts classes as mandated by the ed code. Spread the word by sharing our posts with friends and family!

Arts education isn’t a partisan issue—it’s a human one. Music, dance, painting, and theater are just as essential to a well-rounded education as reading, writing, and math. Studies show that students with access to the arts perform better academically, develop critical thinking skills, and build emotional resilience. When we invest in arts education, we invest in future innovators, problem-solvers, and engaged citizens. This isn’t about left or right—it’s about giving every student the opportunity to reach their full potential.
