  • April is National Donate Life Month – a time to celebrate the power of organ and tissue donation, honor the selfless donors who have saved and enhanced lives, and inspire more people to register as donors. At Cooper, we are proud to stand alongside our partners at NJ Sharing Network in championing this lifesaving mission. Every day, lives are transformed through the gift of donation, yet the need remains great. More than 100,000 people across the country are waiting for a transplant, including nearly 4,000 here in New Jersey. At Cooper, in 2024, we facilitated the highest number of organ donors and organs transplanted of any of NJ Sharing Network partnered hospitals with 29 legacy donations saving 89 lives. Throughout April, we will join communities across the state in raising awareness about the critical need for organ and tissue donation and recognizing the incredible impact of donors and their families. Show your support by wearing blue and green—the colors of donation—on National Blue and Green Day, on Friday, April 11, 2025. We thank the many members of Cooper’s Donor Council and those who support our patients and family during these crucial moments. To learn more, get involved and register as an organ donor, visit www.NJSharingNetwork.org.

  • April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, support families, and protect the well-being of children in our community. As a symbol of hope and resilience, Cooper has planted blue pinwheels in our Healing Garden—each one representing a commitment to creating a brighter, safer future for every child. Pinwheels are the national symbol of child abuse prevention, reminding us of the joy, innocence, and potential that all children deserve. Through advocacy, education, and community support, we can help ensure that every child grows up in a nurturing and safe environment. At Cooper, we are dedicated to providing compassionate care and resources to children and families in need. By working together, we can help prevent child abuse and make a lasting impact. Join us in spreading awareness this April. Every child deserves to be safe. Every child deserves to thrive.

  • The Blue Envelope Program is a new traffic safety initiative by The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden County Commissioners to facilitate safer and more helpful communication between police officers and individuals with autism spectrum disorder during traffic stops, providing those drivers with a blue envelope containing essential information and instructions for law enforcement during a traffic stop. Cooper is a proud co-sponsor of the Blue Envelope Program. “At Cooper, we believe that health care extends beyond the walls of our hospitals into the community. The Blue Envelope initiative is a powerful example of how collaboration among community institutions can drive positive change, and in this instance, make life safer for individuals with autism and their families.” -Joseph Montella, MD, chief medical officer at Cooper. The New Jersey Autism Study in 2020 found the following: 🧩 1 in 35, or 2.9%, of 8-year-old children in New Jersey were identified as autistic. 🧩 1 in 40, or 2.5%, of 4-year-old children were identified as autistic. 🧩 58% of 8-year-old children identified with autism received a comprehensive developmental evaluation by age 3. At Cooper, we understand that people with neurodevelopmental disorders and intellectual disabilities often experience the world differently. Learn about the resources we can provide through our Cooper Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Patient, Family, and Caregiver Support Program at CooperHealth.org/IDD.
