In 2024, the Super Bowl on CBS had the most viewers ever, at 120.3 million, an increase over 113 million the previous year. Along with other platforms, Nielsen estimated total viewership at 123.7 million, making it the most watched sporting event of the year. This year’s showdown between the Chiefs and the Eagles in New Orleans is expected to meet and possibly exceed those viewership numbers as the contest is aired on FOX, as well as their ad-supported streaming service, Tubi, and other streaming platforms. The average cost per spot is $7.5 million, up from $7 million a year ago, with some paying as much as $8 million. Many advertisers are gambling and requesting that their spots air late in the game, in anticipation of a close contest and higher engagement by viewers. Based on FBI statistics and other safety factors, Cooper-Smith’s client, Bowling Green State University, is ranked #2 in Ohio, and #33 nationally in Research.com’s “50 Safest College Towns in America” rankings. Parents have cited this safety ranking as one of many factors that put them at ease about choosing BGSU for their student. This, along with BGSU’s top ranking as “Most Popular College Town in America” by Zillow, contribute to the overall positive student experience at Bowling Green.

Generative AI is reshaping digital marketing in ways similar to the impact of banner ads in the ‘90s. Just as banner ads revolutionized targeted marketing, AI takes it further by creating personalized content at scale and improving engagement. While it raises ethical concerns, its ability to democratize content creation and empower marketing teams is undeniable, offering unmatched efficiency, creativity, and automation. AI is the future of marketing—transforming how businesses connect with consumers while navigating privacy and ethical challenges. #AI #DigitalMarketing #Innovation #TechForGood #MarketingEvolution

When we approach interactions with the assumption that others mean well, it fosters a culture of trust and reduces conflict, allowing for more open communication. By doing so, we can help create a supportive environment where people may be more open to share ideas and feedback, ultimately driving innovation and growth. In this episode of In the Arena: Conversations of a Lifetime, Jim Haudan, Chairman and Co-Founder, Root, part of Accenture, talks about how negativity can gum things up with relationships and growth, and how we can benefit from assuming positive intent behind the actions of others. Kim and Jim Cooper, Holly Becher and Marilynn Johnson attended the Women's Business Enterprise Council Ohio River Valley (WBEC ORV) 15th Anniversary Catch the Wave Conference in Cincinnati last week. Mehrnaz Bosch, President of M Browz Spa and Academy also attended with us as a prospective new member. The professional development sessions around AI and Ohio Supplier Diversity Initiatives, as well as networking opportunities with corporate partners and fellow WBE’s were well orchestrated by the WBEC ORV team. A highlight for Cooper-Smith, was when Holly Goldstein Becher received the President’s Award for her contributions as a volunteer, rebranding the organization and leading the Marketing Communications Committee as their Vice-Chair. She was recently promoted to Chair, and will serve in that role for the coming year. Congratulations to all of the award recipients, including Sheila A. Mixon, former WBEC ORV President, who won the Trailblazer Award. Thank you to Lynnise Smith, WBEC ORV current President and her team for another outstanding event!

For decades, advertisers have sought to air their messages in NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics. Typically, prime time coverage of the games would dominate the broadcast television ratings for that time period, with as much as a 35%-40% share of audience. However, consumer media habits have shifted over the years—from watching programming on broadcast to various digital video platforms—and viewing the Olympic games is no exception. This story from the Cincinnati Enquirer summarizes the many ways viewers can watch Team USA compete in 2024. Cooper-Smith has worked with each of our clients to develop the optimal media mix to most efficiently reach their customers in this very high profile athletic event. The 2024 Paris Olympics kick off July 25-August 11th.

Over 600 women, and a few brave men, united at The Glass City Center for a wonderful event, the Owens Corning Women’s Leadership Summit. Reshma Saujani, Founder and CEO of Moms First and Girls Who Code, was the keynote speaker. Toledo favorite, Chrys Peterson, was a delightful emcee. Cooper-Smith sponsored a table at the event, which precedes the Dana Open LPGA tournament July 15-21 at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania OH.
