Last week, Consul General Frank Groome travelled to Kentucky, where he had the opportunity to experience firsthand the strength of the connections between Ireland and the State. The visit began in Louisville, with a warm welcome from newly appointed University of Louisville President Gerry Bradley. From there, CG Groome continued to Frankfort for engaging discussions with senior officials in Governor Beshear’s office, reflecting on the vibrancy of Ireland–Kentucky economic ties. The final stop brought him to Lexington, where the strong cultural and historical ties between Ireland and Kentucky were on full display. CG Groome visited Coolmore America, a standout in the global thoroughbred industry and a proud extension of Ireland’s Coolmore Stud. He also connected with representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Lexington Sister Cities, and the Kentucky Association for Economic Development (KAED) over lunch, met students from University of Kentucky preparing for a summer of study in Ireland, and engaged in a thoughtful diplomatic dialogue with students and professors at the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky. A visit to the historic Keeneland Association racetrack capped off a meaningful and memorable trip, underscoring the deep, enduring ties between our two communities.
