Updates

  • Happy birthday to CPC! Community Progress Council has been proudly serving York County since 1965 — that’s six decades of empowering families and helping neighbors reach economic self-sufficiency. From our start on April 8, 1965, we’ve grown into a vital part of the community, creating a foundation for economic stability and growth for families all across York County. We’re grateful to the strong community leaders who saw our organization through its inception and early decades, and committed to continue creating solutions for the future. Here’s to 60 years of progress — and the next 60 to come! Read a little more in our blog post today: https://lnkd.in/edqhpXVt.

  • Are you ready to be a part of #GiveLocalYork? When you give to Community Progress Council on May 1 & 2, you’re helping families move toward self-sufficiency. Just $100 supplements the cost of groceries for a family who just earned a raise at work and lost their SNAP benefits, leading to a temporary decrease in overall purchasing power. See what else you can make possible through your support of CPC at https://lnkd.in/gbbpVjHD.

  • "Getting Ahead In A Just-Gettin'-By World" is our multi-week program that engages participants as investigators to consider how poverty affects their lives and their communities, and examine their current situations. From there, they can build resources, and begin to develop a vision for the future, creating a plan for getting ahead. Hear it from graduates in this video: The program is impactful!

  • In March, we took time to celebrate the Progress of more than two dozen participants for their completion of the "Getting Ahead in A Just-Gettin'-By World" program. We honor and recognize your commitment to this 16-week program, and for investigating how poverty is impacting your life and the communities we live in. "Getting Ahead" is often called the high-octane fuel that addresses poverty, a jump-start for people to begin to build relationships, resources, and skills to plan their future story. That's absolutely true for the graduates we heard from last month! One graduate shared, "This course has been the door that opened my mind. When we have a goal, difficulties will arise, but our desire to achieve that change or goal will also be tested. I understood that if I wanted opportunities, I needed to make changes." We can’t wait to see where you’ll go next.

  • What does Progress look like? Community Progress Council participants work with their coach to understand their strengths and areas that need to be strengthened, which guides the goal-planning process. Last year, parents and caregivers in our early childhood education families made progress or achieved 350 goal plans in education, income, and employment. These big and small steps are the path to economic stability!

  • Nutrition is important for all ages, but especially for our youngest learners! As part of our comprehensive approach to early childhood education, all of our students enjoy breakfast, lunch, and a snack each day — that’s more than 300 children, all across York County! Food Service Manager Jordyn Harris-Franklin shares how the team approaches meal planning with a focus on culturally responsive items, nutritional value, and a good dose of fun.
