The new Jonesborough Elementary School establishes a vibrant, inviting center for 21st century learning, featuring brick facades and floor-to-ceiling windows that reflect Jonesborough's downtown while creating bright, engaging spaces for 1,100 students in grades PK-8. The courtyard garden serves as the heart of the school, with reading porches and outdoor learning areas extending the classroom experience beyond four walls. Another successful year of Dance Meets Architecture is in the books! This year, our students' curriculum theme was "Systems and Structures." The winning conceptual design was created by Gabe Hosang. Inspired by the branches and root systems of trees, Gabe's design emphasizes the organic yet structured nature of these natural systems. Our team fabricated Gabe’s concept with vibrant color blocks between the branches to honor his original concept, which featured four distinct quadrants. The design balances rigidity with flowing curves at both the top and bottom. A unique feature of this year's element is that it is constructed entirely of cardboard to allow for easier movement by the dancers. A temperate rainforest thrives in North Carolina at Gorges State Park, recently spotlighted by Citizen Times. Clark Nexsen designed the LEED Gold Visitor Center to welcome visitors to this unique ecosystem where 90 inches of annual rainfall nurtures rare biodiversity and feeds 26 stunning waterfalls. Our building serves as a sustainability teaching tool for visitors. Designed to harmonize with its surroundings, the center utilizes geothermal wells, rainwater harvesting, and strategic daylighting – making the most of the park's natural resources while fostering appreciation for sustainable practices. Amazing adventures this week with the LEAD757 class as we learned more about the #infrastructure challenges and successes of the #HamptonRoads region. The day included a trip to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel District to see its operations "behind the scenes!" Thanks to Hampton Roads Transit , Dominion Energy , HRBT Expansion Project, Virginia Department of Transportation, Hampton Roads Executive Roundtable, and the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission for their insightful presentations. Located on The University of Texas at Austin main campus, the new Whitis Court Residence Hall will feature office spaces, a conference center with expandable meeting facilities to serve the UT Austin community, laundry facilities, and unique student gathering spaces that will promote student academic success. Our design carefully preserves the university’s heritage trees, which directly influenced our architectural approach. The project is being designed to attain LEED Silver certification. Through a dynamic public/private partnership with the University of Texas, Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions and Clark Nexsen are dedicated to delivering a modern, sustainable living and learning environment.
