The City of Shelby hosted a Service Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, March 26, at the Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby. Employees and staff from many of the City of Shelby’s departments were recognized for their years of service. During the luncheon, the city announced Marcus Kennedy as the Employee of the Year for 2024. Marcus has been with the City of Shelby since 2005 and currently serves as the Electric Superintendent with the Energy Services Department. #ServiceAwardsLuncheon #Congratulations #EmployeeoftheYear #CityofShelby

NOTICE: North Carolina continues to be under a statewide open burning ban. Conditions locally in Shelby and Cleveland County remain extremely dry. On Saturday, March 22, the City of Shelby Fire & Rescue, Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, and the NC Forest Service responded to a grass and woods fire on Ross Grove Road that covered a large area and destroyed several outbuildings. In addition to open burning, which is generally prohibited in the city limits, the ban also covers fire pits, campfires, and outdoor cooking fires. NOTICE: March 21, 2025 A statewide burn ban has been issued by the North Carolina Forest Service. This ban also applies to recreational type fires which are usually allowed in the city limits.
