  • Homes in East Sanford received free smoke alarm installations on March 28th as part of the nationwide “Sound the Alarm, Save a Life” campaign. The Sanford Fire Department, in partnership with the American Red Cross and Lee County Emergency Management, participated in this initiative by installing working smoke alarms, providing fire safety education, and encouraging families to create an escape plan. All with the goal of reducing fire-related deaths. “The Sound the Alarm Program with the American Red Cross gave us a unique opportunity to work with a variety of groups across our entire region to move towards a common goal of making our community safer,” said Sanford Fire Chief Matt Arnold. “We were also able to establish relationships that will help us in the future to continue to keep the residents of the City of Sanford safe.” Thank you to our firefighters, emergency management staff, and Red Cross volunteers for making this effort a success! 👏 ➡️ Need a smoke alarm? City of Sanford residents can call 919-775-8313 to schedule a free installation.  Photos courtesy of the Sandhills Chapter American Red Cross
