We are honored to have Professor Caryl Waggett, Global Health Studies, Allegheny College, join us as a facilitator for the next session of the 2024-2025 AAC&U-CILMAR Global Learning Webinar series. Dr. Waggett is the 2022 recipient of the Riegelman Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Public Health Education from the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH). The award recognizes faculty who have made exemplary efforts to start or sustain an undergraduate program, collaborated with community partners and other disciplines, and garnered respect and enthusiasm from students. Waggett joined the Allegheny faculty in 2003 and is the founding chair of the College’s Global Health Studies Program. Over the past two decades, she has grown her work as an environmental health scientist into a thriving multidisciplinary public health major and minor. She regularly integrates active learning into her courses, including community-based participatory research focused on remediating local environmental hazards. In addition, she has contributed to the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) initiatives on public health, liberal education, and educated citizenship, and has led workshops on experiential learning for ASPPH, the U.S. Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine, and numerous other academic and professional organizations. She recently completed her second term as co-chair of the Subcommittee on Master’s and Undergraduate Degrees in Global Health for the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), which researches trends in global health education and develops resources for curricular development, advising, and assessment. Waggett is also the founder and director of Teach Global Health, an organization that has collaborated with ASPPH, CUGH, and other public health organizations to support excellence in teaching and mentoring at liberal arts colleges as well as research universities. In this presentation from November 2023 entitled "Leveraging Cultural Mindset to Improve Multicultural Engineering Teamwork," Dr. Franki Kung and Dante Bruno present research on the psychological barriers that prevent students and professionals in multicultural teams from collaborating effectively across cultures. To break through these barriers, the presenters recommend that students should develop relevant intercultural competence and skills as part of their curriculum. They also discuss recent findings on the benefits of a malleable cultural mindset and demonstrate a developing three-week online learning module, "Global Engineering Mindset," that helps students adopt a more adaptive cultural mindset going into multicultural teamwork. Franki Y. H. Kung, PhD, is associate professor, Psychological Sciences; and Dante Bruno is a PhD student, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Psychological Sciences, College of Health and Human Sciences. https://lnkd.in/gdxz4vDM

Join us on Friday, February 7, 12:00pm-1:30pm EST, as Aparajita Jaiswal from CILMAR and our special guest Caryl Waggett from Allegheny College lead us in this enlightening conversation on intercultural and global self-awareness.
