Today, we welcomed Philip Long (CEO, National Trust for Scotland) and his wife Annie Campbell, along with Alison Dichter (Director, The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA), and Gus Noble OBE (President, Chicago Scots). Ahead of their University Club of Chicago luncheon and discussion this coming Wednesday, we were able to chat about historic preservation and design around the world, as well as new ways to engage the public and create cultural connections through architecture. We look forward to collaborating with these groups and continuing to learn from each other.

Last night we celebrated the artists, architects, and preservationists who contributed to CAC's new exhibition, Architectural Head Games. The evening itself was a masquerade, highlighting the creative wearable designs and a vibrant spirit of self-expression. A big thanks to Chana Haouzi, AIA, co-curator of the exhibit and founder of the Architects Guild. And also to former DCASE commissioner Mark Kelly and Arts in the Dark. Want to check out these wildly inventive headpieces? The exhibition is open through May! Visit the link in the Comments. #Chicago #architecture #architecturalheadgames #creativity

We were very pleased to host the "ConstructHER: Building Bold Futures Challenge" last week at CAC. This special event featured a LEGO construction competition designed for female-identifying students in 5th-10th grade. The girls had a lot of fun working in teams, and the winners took home prizes. It's always great collaborating with Girls Inc. of Chicago to get more youth engaged with and excited by #STEAM!

Edward Keegan's Chicago Tribune review of the new Encuentro Square affordable housing development is spot on. It is one of the most inviting new residential projects at any price bracket. Also a great anchor for the west end of the #606, especially once the final building and a promised public park arrive to fill in the remaining fenced-off land. Congrats to Jaime Torres Carmona and the Canopy / architecture + design team!

We had a packed house on Thursday for a discussion about quantum computing and the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park (IQMP) planned at the former USX South Works site. Led by our moderator Lesley Roth, panelists Curt Bailey, Josh Richman, and Alds. Peter Chico (10th) and Gregory Mitchell (7th) shed light on the technology, the site plan, open space and connectivity, and the potential job and economic benefits for nearby communities and the larger region. Both aldermen made emotional appeals for the need to reinvigorate surrounding neighborhoods that have suffered decades of disinvestment and population loss since the collapse of the steel industry. It's so important to make this investment work for all Chicagoans. We look forward to watching the progress unfold! Wonderful news! The National Public Housing Museum has announced their official opening weekend. Doors open April 4-6 with a busy schedule of free talks, workshops, and receptions, along with access to inaugural exhibits and installations. Many years in the making, the new LBBA Architects-designed museum, which has few parallels anywhere, is destined to be a great addition to the city's cultural landscape. We look forward to partnering with NPHM as it works to tell the story of public housing and its legacy and future in Chicago and beyond. #NPHM #PublicHousing #Housing #Chicago #JaneAddamsHomes

Congratulations to Margaret Cavenagh, a celebrated Chicago design leader, for her appointment to Managing Director of the Chicago office of Perkins&Will. Margaret will take over from Lindsey Peckinpaugh, who now moves into the firm-wide president role full time. Lindsey expertly juggled both roles over the past year. Margaret worked at Studio Gang for two decades, serving as design principal with credits that include notable projects like the Solstice on the Park apartments in Hyde Park and the in-progress O'Hare Global Terminal. She helped grow the firm from a staff of 10 to a staff of 140. We can't wait to see what's in store for the P&W Chicago studio! #architecture #Chicago #WomenInArchitecture 📸: Margaret Cavenagh and Lindsey Peckinpaugh
