Chargebee is the billing and monetization platform for the AI economy.

About us

Over a decade ago, four friends set out to tackle the growing complexities of SaaS billing. What began as a shared dream quickly evolved into a mission to address the biggest hurdles facing businesses: billing complexity, revenue leakage, and missing or disconnected data to inform pricing decisions. As the world shifted from one-time transactions to ongoing customer relationships, Chargebee emerged as a flexible, agile, and elegant solution to help businesses manage recurring customer relationships and accelerate growth. Today, Chargebee is the billing and monetization platform built for the AI economy. From fast-scaling startups to global enterprises, we help companies capture, optimize, and scale revenue — no matter their GTM strategy or pricing model. Whether you’re experimenting with usage-based pricing, launching AI-powered products, or expanding globally, Chargebee gives you the flexibility and automation to grow with confidence. As the age of AI reshapes how companies deliver and charge for value, we’re excited to shape the future of monetization — one billing breakthrough at a time.

  • After more than a decade helping the fastest-growing companies scale, we've seen a clear pattern emerge: the companies that win don’t just build the best products, they build the best monetization strategies. And that means billing can’t be a back-office afterthought anymore. Because there’s no universal answer to “What pricing model is the best for my company?” — the only way to find out is to test, iterate, and evolve based on real-world usage and feedback. A billing system that locks you into one pricing approach won’t get you there. At Chargebee, our mission is to empower every company with the tools to experiment without limits, so they can unlock unparalleled scale. That’s why we’re excited to introduce you to our NEW usage ecosystem, which offers a powerful way to track, analyze, and monetize product usage in real time to inform the best pricing decisions for you. In fact, we’re SO excited about this launch that we’re giving every Chargebee customer up to 100 million usage events free per month, for 24 months. (Yes, really!) That’s two full years to experiment, learn, and land on your best-fit monetization model — usage-based, outcome-driven, or hybrid — without worrying about cost. So… what would you try if you had two years of free testing? → 90-day POCs to close that big logo? → Outcome-based pricing that charges for results? → Flat vs. usage vs. performance tiers — all on autopilot? With a worldwide billboard campaign rolling out in NYC, SF, and London featuring DeepL and Zapier, two forward-thinking Chargebee customers, we’re making one thing loud and clear: it’s time for #Better_Billing. Our CEO and Co-founder, Krish Subramanian, shares why we’re going all-in on this movement — and how Chargebee customers can start testing their way to product-market-pricing fit with our exciting new offer. “…one word that cost us 30$ to make.” Last week, I wrote about how we cannot approach monetization questions without acknowledging the wider business context. In today’s Relay by Chargebee interview, Sudowrite’s co-founder, Amit Gupta, illustrates just that level of deep understanding. Amit’s notes on moving from fixed-priced subscriptions, to charging for output, to now running a credits-based usage model, while building a unique AI writing tool, capture the raw truth of making pricing iterations for an offering with an entirely new kind of value. What especially stood out to me was how every pricing model (and point) packs within it assumptions of value exchange that ONLY get exposed when real customers use your product, stretch it to its edges, make demands, and reveal behaviors you could never have predicted. Amit’s thinking on differentiating against the frontier model providers from the get-go and how they’re innovating at the prompting layer is instructive as well. I recommend reading the whole interview.

"We are at our fourth attempt at a pricing model, and it’s still not right." In the latest on Relay, Amit Gupta, co-founder of Sudowrite shares some extraordinarily gripping lessons on pricing iterations, differentiation, finding PMF, and more for AI-native SaaS. • Huge congratulations to DeepL for being recognized on the Forbes AI 50 list for the second year in a row! 🏆 In an industry where innovation is the baseline - not the differentiator - and competition is relentless, this kind of recognition takes more than just building a great solution. It takes doing the hard, unglamorous (but absolutely essential) back-end work, like making sure your billing doesn’t break when 200,000+ businesses and governments are counting on you. Kudos to the DeepL team for building an industry-leading AI-powered translation and writing platform. We’re incredibly proud to be your partner and can’t wait to see what milestone you hit next!

  • We’ve upgraded our office in Dublin 🇮🇪 and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with WeWork to make it happen! Our CMO Guy Marion, who made the move from California to Dublin last year, puts it best: "Dublin acts as a central hub to our operations, and our move to 5 Harcourt Road is a significant step in advancing our mission to innovate the revenue landscape and support businesses across Europe with their billing and monetization strategies." Here’s to new beginnings and a space that grows with us! 🐝

If you heard a buzz in San Francisco last week… that was us. 🐝 Every main stage session at #Beelieve25 was packed with 🔥 insights. We’ve got a lot more to share, but for now, here are 6 standout moments from Day 2: ⚡️ James Clear, #1 NYT Bestselling author of Atomic Habits, reminded us that excellence isn’t built on radical change, it’s the result of small, consistent improvements. 1% better every day > ⚡️ Tyler Sloat, CFO & COO at Freshworks, called out a pricing mistake many teams (including theirs) often make: baking pricing into the product. When every pricing test needs engineering support, it slows down GTM teams and kills momentum. ⚡️ Wade Foster, Co-founder & CEO at Zapier, outlined how Zapier revamped its pricing by simplifying plans, removing limits on Zaps, and modeling risk — all in service of long-term retention over short-term gain. ⚡️ Godard Abel, Co-founder & CEO at G2, dropped a powerful stat: 62% of buyers now expect faster ROI from AI-powered software than from legacy apps. AI isn’t just transforming how buyers discover solutions, it’s changing how quickly they expect to see results. ⚡️ Ana Garcia, VP, Data and Platform Engineering at LegalZoom, gave us a reality check on building with AI: it’s powerful, but not cheap. Fine-tuning foundational models, maintaining high-quality knowledge bases, and validating outputs all come at a cost. ⚡️ Adam Lifshitz, Senior Director of Product for Subscriptions at Condé Nast, walked us through the media giant’s test-and-learn approach to monetization — where every part of the subscriber journey, from paywalls to cancel saves, is personalized and optimized. 👀 Looking for deeper insights? You’re in luck, session recordings are on the way. But until then… which sessions are you most excited to watch? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Feeling inspired by the conversations with entrepreneurs and enterprise leaders at Chargebee's Beelieve conference in San Francisco last week! My four key takeaways: 🤖 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 – Companies are shifting from seat-based pricing to usage, outcome, and value-based models that better support digital labor. 📊 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦 – Vendors like Chargebee and Rippling now offer integrated suites. Chargebee's monetization suite combines multiple software categories into single solutions for billing, CPQ, subscription management, and analytics. 💡 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞-𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝟐𝐁 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 –  Startups like Respaid, founded by John Banner, are developing purpose-built AI agents to automate B2B workflows that once required expensive finance and legal human resources. Agent-to-agent integrations complement and seamlessly integrate with platforms like Chargebee. 🔍 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 – Over 70% of buyers make decisions before contacting vendors, with G2 reviews becoming the #1 influencer of LLM recommendations for B2B software. Thank you Krish Subramanian and Guy Marion for hosting me at Beelieve 2025! Impressed by your customer success and innovation helping clients navigate the AI era – as validated by your 868 happy G2 customer reviews!

Chief Marketing Officer @ Chargebee | CEO & Founder, Brightback (acq. & now Chargebee Retention)

What a week. Beelieve 2025, you delivered! From the keynote stage to the back-of-the-room conversations, it’s clear that finance, revenue, and product leaders are navigating the new AI economy where systems, adaptability, and customer obsession define monetization success. 👏 👏 As I closed out our flagship user conference, I found myself reflecting on the insight, energy, and ambition packed into two unforgettable days. Every speaker - finance leaders, founders, product growth strategists, AI innovators— left us with something powerful to carry forward, including: 🔸 “You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.” – Madhuri Koneru, SVP Finance, Freshworks (channeling James Clear) 🔸 “There’s not a single moment where we're not running a test.” – Adam Lifshitz, Senior Director of Product Subscriptions, Condé Nast 🔸 “AI is today’s innovator’s dilemma—you can’t opt out or slow the train down. When monetizing AI, you’re directly trying to price the value rather than the features. And you may be able to match your competitor's capabilities, but can you match from a pricing and costing perspective?” – Wade Foster, co-founder & CEO, Zapier 🔸 “Monetization must become a continuous practice.” – Krish Subramanian, co-founder & CEO, Chargebee 🔸 “With AI, we’re doing what we’ve always done—using tech to make work faster, better, and more human.” – James Clear To our speakers, customers and partners (especially Gold sponsors Adyen, Anrok, Avalara, FlexPay, GoCardless, and PayPal), and to every Chargebee who worked tirelessly to bring Beelieve 2025 to life, thank you for making the magic possible! And we’re just getting started, because this year Beelieve is going global: 📍 London – May 8 📍 New York – June 12 📍 Austin – June 17 📍 Paris – September 11 📍 Sydney – later September Let’s keep building the future of revenue together. 💥 #Beelieve2025 #AI #Monetization #Chargebee

Tariffs are back in the headlines, and they’re shaking up global trade, compliance, and expansion. In the words of Frank D. Hanzlik, VP & GM, Global Partner Development at Avalara "This is generationally crazy, 1930 is the last time we saw something like this with tariffs". 🤯 With no signs of stabilization for at least another 6–12 months, one thing is clear: AI + humans is the formula for navigating continued volatility with speed and agility. So how can businesses prepare their teams to manage the risks of integrating AI into compliance processes? Here's what Patrick Frith, Senior Director of Global Trade at Avalara, and Lydia Stone, Chief Accounting Officer at Chargebee, shared at #Beelieve25: 1️⃣ Experiment with AI but stay within your data wall. Security and compliance still come first. 2️⃣ Modernize your back office to keep up with the pace of change. Traditional systems won’t cut it. You need to capture, connect, and streamline data across finance, ops, and trade to stay agile. 3️⃣ As Patrick shared, messy data means missed opportunities. Get it right from the start to reduce risk and stay audit-ready. How are you feeling about the tariff turbulence? Optimistic, overwhelmed, or somewhere in between? Let us know in the comments! 👇 #BeelievebyChargebee #ChargebeeAcademy

  • In her #Beelieve25 session, Kalpana Sundar, Senior Director of Product at PayPal, took us on a journey through the evolution of payments — from the days of bartering to today’s world of crypto and seamless digital transactions. One standout insight Kalpana shared on AI implementation: In a highly regulated space like payments, your AI systems must be explainable. And what does explainable AI really mean? 👉 Clearly showing what data inputs are being used 👉 Being able to explain how decisions are made 👉 Proving your algorithms are free from bias When businesses are transparent and clear about how their AI systems work, they're able to build stronger customer relationships, reduce friction, and drive long-term loyalty. #BeelievebyChargebee #ChargebeeAcademy
