Catherine Dougherty, SVP of Global Brand Integrated Communications at The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and one of this year’s Achiever Award Honorees, shares wisdom that has helped guide her approach to leadership, mentorship, and innovation. Catherine often says fate led her to communications — but it’s her strategic storytelling, ability to build meaningful connections, and relentless curiosity that have propelled her rise at The Estée Lauder Companies. “The answer is always in the room. The breakthrough idea, the solution to the challenge—it’s all there if you listen, observe, and trust your instincts. Success isn’t about having all the answers yourself; it’s about fostering collaboration, staying relentlessly curious, and knowing when to push beyond the obvious. True innovation comes from seeing what others miss—and having the courage to act on it.” Read more about Catherine here - https://bit.ly/4jkOI66 #CEWAwards #CEWAchieverAwards #WomensLeadership

As the Chief Marketing Officer of Rare Beauty and a 2025 CEW Achiever Award Honoree, Katie Welch is known for leading with purpose and authenticity. In the lead-up to this year’s Achiever Awards, we’re spotlighting honorees who are redefining what success looks like — and sharing the career advice that helped get them there. Katie reflects on the best guidance she ever received — and how it’s guided her own journey and the next generation of marketers she mentors. From building meaningful relationships to showing up with curiosity and intention, her advice is a must-read for anyone looking to grow not just their career, but their impact. “Early in my career, a mentor told me, “Your career is a marathon, not a sprint — so focus on building relationships, not just checking boxes.” At the time, I was laser-focused on proving myself, moving fast, and accomplishing more. But over time, I realized that real career growth doesn’t just come from working hard — it comes from the people you meet, the conversations you lean into, and the relationships you nurture. That’s why I always tell mentees: be intentional about connection. Take time to listen, ask questions, and build trust. Some of the best opportunities in my career didn’t come from chasing titles or achievements—they came from showing up fully, staying curious, and investing in people. And most importantly, be an active participant in your own career. Don’t wait for permission to grow. Speak up, take on challenges, and put yourself in rooms where you can learn. Success isn’t just about what you do — it’s about how you engage, how you show up, and how you make others feel along the way. This philosophy has shaped how I lead at Rare Beauty. Our brand is built on emotional connection, and I believe careers should be, too. When you focus on meaning over milestones, success feels less like a finish line and more like a journey worth taking.” Read more about Katie here - https://bit.ly/3Y01pKX #CEWAwards #CEWAchieversAward #RareBeauty #KatieWelch

Carrie Gross, Co-Founder of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare, is building a legacy brand rooted in dermatological expertise and real-world innovation. We asked Gross to share the most relevant career advice she’s ever received or given — and how it shaped her leadership style and entrepreneurial journey. Her takeaway? Hire well. Build a team rooted in curiosity. And never be afraid to admit what you don’t know. “The hard truth is that 20% of new businesses fail during the first two years, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first 10 years. My first mentor was an epic CFO. I chose him specifically for this reason. I was an entrepreneur and a marketer, not a formally trained CEO with an MBA. He taught me how to build a business plan and a P&L. I always say, ‘know what you know and know what you don’t know.’ For example, [my husband and business partner] Dennis is a board-certified practicing dermatologist, skin cancer researcher, cell biologist, and scientific genius. Guess who creates all our formulas? Certainly not me! My advice is to hire well, build a strong team and create a cultural mindset of continuous learning and curiosity. The consumer is more sophisticated than ever before, and the competition is fierce! Be innovative. Know your brand promise and stay true to it. Boldly tell your authentic story.” Read more about Carrie here - https://bit.ly/42rczcU #CEWAchieverAwards #CEWAwards #CarrieGross #DrDennisGrossSkincare

For Melis del Rey, GM of Health & Beauty, U.S. Stores at Amazon, success isn’t just about vision — it’s about action. Her mindset has shaped not only her career, but the way Amazon built its Health & Beauty empire. Melis shares her career advice — and how it’s shaped her own professional journey. For her, success comes down to three things: ownership, passion, and a growth mindset. “I believe in few universal truths when it comes to career advice. Taking ownership of your career development is critical for long-term success and fulfillment. HR research shows that employees who find a role they are passionate about are 50% more likely to achieve their goals. Passion fuels intrinsic motivation, leading to greater dedication and effort towards achieving goals. I can attest to this from my own experience of moving from an engineering career track in academia to a business career track in brand building, marketing, and sales. Actively pursuing new opportunities and embracing challenging "crucible moments" as chances to grow can also significantly boost one's career trajectory. I vividly remember my first year at Amazon was probably my toughest year in my 20+ year career, but also the year I learned the most. By combining a sense of ownership, passion for the work, and a growth mindset, individuals can maximize their chances of achieving their professional aspirations.” Read more about her story here - https://bit.ly/42av3Q9 #CEWAchieverAwards #CEWAwards #MelisdelRey #Amazon
