The Center for Human Development, Inc. (CHD) provides a broad range of high quality, community-oriented human services dedicated to promoting, enhancing, and protecting the dignity and welfare of people in need. With over 70 programs and services, CHD is Western Massachusetts’ largest and most successful social service organization, delivering a broad array of critical services with proven effectiveness, integrity and compassion. CHD has been helping people build strong, productive relationships since 1972. Each year, our community based social service and behavioral health programs reach over 18,000 people in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. We currently employ more than 1,400 professionals across all of our locations. Working in local communities, and partnering with local agencies, we provide focused, personalized services that promote real and lasting change. CHD is driven by a focus on excellence and a spirit of innovation. As a non-profit organization, our only motivation is helping people create successful lives. Ryan Kincade, outreach coordinator for CHD's All In: Barrier-Free Recreation, was interviewed by WWLP-22News about last weekend’s sled hockey tournament at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield. Kincade is also captain of the Springfield Thunderbirds sled hockey team, which is administered by All In. The tournament was “an opportunity for the entire community to see what kind of work we put into it, and what sled hockey is all about,” he said. In April, Autism Acceptance Month is celebrated in an effort to spread awareness, promote acceptance, and ignite positive change in support of autistic children and adults. CHD’s Early Intervention program, in addition to helping children meet developmental milestones, as well as a range of other needs, also works with children on the autism spectrum and their families to address areas where support is needed. Jessie’s House was founded in 1983 to respond to the growing numbers of unhoused people in Hampshire County. It is now home to six families in Amherst, who receive not only shelter, but also food, case management, and referrals to other community services. Individuals served by our Hawthorn Adult Day Health program in West Springfield got into the spring spirit recently by planting daffodils, hyacinths, and pansies by the front door. Our Hawthorn programs in Springfield and West Springfield help ease some of the daily challenges that caregivers of elderly parents or loved ones with disabilities can face when they’re trying to coordinate care while they work or fulfill other duties.
