In a remote Bolivian village, a small school nestled between rolling hills now thrives with students eager to learn, write and play. ⛰️💧 The students used to carry heavy buckets of water to school every day, making learning difficult. This #EarthMonth, our Lisle office volunteered at the town’s annual Sustainable Saturday event. They helped unload more than 500 cars to collect every used good imaginable: electronics, scrap metal, bicycles, school supplies, musical instruments, eyeglasses and more. 🌏 Traditionally "water rich" areas are facing water scarcity challenges due to factors like geography, aquifer depletion, and more. These communities are beginning to turn to water reuse as a water supply solution. 🌏 What are the 3 main drivers behind water reuse? 1️⃣ Effluent disposal challenges. In major cities like NYC and San Francisco, efforts to minimize inflow going to sewers are a priority. They're implementing recycled water systems in buildings, hoping to enhance water quality while alleviating the strain on the potable water supply. 2️⃣ Economic development. Data centers and other industrial activities require a lot of water for cooling and operation. With non-potable and treated recycled water, it can meet the specific needs of industry and relieve the strain on local drinking water supplies. 3️⃣ Environmental and sustainability efforts. Projects like the SWIFT initiative in Hampton Roads Sanitation District are combatting saltwater intrusion and land subsidence by focusing on aquifer recharge.
