With Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Amazon Web Services (AWS) secures the infrastructure, but the security of your workloads is still in your hands. Teams often assume that running on a managed service means everything is secure out of the box. In reality, there are critical areas that require your attention to avoid vulnerabilities and misconfigurations. From access policies to container images, here are the areas that deserve your attention — and why they matter: 🔐 IAM & Access Control Misconfigured permissions can open the door to unauthorized access, leading to data exposure, compliance risks, and increased operational costs. 🖼️ Image Security Images are often the first attack surface. Poorly constructed or outdated containers can result in security breaches and serve as the initial method for accessing your host. 🛡️ Pod Security Protecting pods is essential to prevent unauthorized access and maintain isolation between containers and the host. 🌐 Network Security By default, Kubernetes allows Pod-to-Pod communication. Without robust measures, this can lead to service disruptions, compliance violations, and poor visibility for threat detection. 🔑 Data Encryption & Secrets If sensitive data isn’t encrypted properly, both in transit and at rest, it’s vulnerable to interception and misuse. ✅ Multi-Tenancy Shared clusters increase the blast radius of a breach. Without strong isolation, one compromised workload could affect many others. 🕵️♂️ Detective Controls & Incident Response Preventive controls are important, but in EKS, effective monitoring and alerting are essential for quickly detecting and responding to security incidents. In our new blog, explore security best practices for EKS to help maintain a strong security posture from Caylent's Leticia A.: https://hubs.li/Q03fGgb10 What’s one security lesson your team learned while running EKS? Imagine managing thousands of moves every year—cataloging every item, calculating space, and ensuring nothing gets missed—all while relying on outdated, manual processes. 📦🚚 That was the challenge Virtual Moving Technologies (VMT), a moving company that offers affordable, accurate and easy to use virtual survey solution, set out to solve. VMT’s original solution using Amazon Rekognition provided a strong foundation, but as their business evolved, they required a more advanced and scalable solution. Caylent helped VMT build a custom object detection solution using Amazon SageMaker AI, backed by a fully automated MLOps pipeline and a scalable cloud-native architecture. 🚀 The result? VMT increased object detection accuracy to 85% and quadrupled their sales team's productivity—from just 3-4 in-person assessments per day to 12 virtual ones. Learn more here: https://hubs.li/Q03frxKg0
