April is National Volunteer Month. I’m happy to have reached these milestones as a volunteer with Catchafire:   ✅ 4-1/2 years of volunteering ✅ $306,000 of value to nonprofits ✅ 1,600 hours ✅ 153 engagements with… ✅ 117 organizations My latest project has been with The Book Exchange Marin, a wonderful organization that provides children from Marin’s most under-resourced communities with books of their own. I’m looking forward to helping many more nonprofits through Catchafire. In these fraught times, nonprofits can use your skills, so volunteer and give something back. It’s so worth it!

We just hit $3.5 million in value from the SVPSA Catchafire portal, just from volunteers who are professionals, giving their expertise to local nonprofits to help them expand their bandwidth and support the staff. That's money that can be put into other needs. Can't say thank you enough to everyone, coming together to make good happen. See how it works at www.Catchafire.org #GlobalVolunteerMonth. #SVPSanAntonio #Leadership.

Just received a heartfelt thank you card from a Catchafire client! ✨ Designing a logo may seem like a small act, but seeing the impact it has on a community reminds me why I love what I do. It was an honor to collaborate with Charis and contribute to the BLC mission through design. Grateful for the experience and excited to continue supporting more communities through my work! #GraphicDesign #Volunteering #CommunityImpact

Since October 2024, I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer with Raíces Del Canal and Sumner Community Food Bank through Catchafire, using my design skills to support their incredible missions. Seeing my work contribute to a total estimated impact of $13,772 has been incredibly rewarding! This impact means more youth can access Raices Del Canal’s programs free of charge and Sumner Community Food Bank can help 91 families of five for an entire month. As a designer, I believe in the power of visuals to tell stories, inspire action, and create meaningful change. I’m grateful for the chance to use my expertise to make a difference and collaborate with organizations dedicated to having a positive impact. If you're interested in volunteering your skills, I highly recommend checking out Catchafire. 💙

I left a webinar last week that moved me to tears.    Hosted by Paladin and Catchafire, the webinar was titled “Legal Essentials for Nonprofits: Navigating Uncertainty & Preparing for What’s Next.” Since the first Executive Order attacking funding for farmers using climate-friendly farming practices, farmers of color, queer farmers and the nonprofits that support them was signed on January 20th, my heart rate has been elevated every day.  I’m not a farmer or working for a nonprofit whose funds are tied to federal dollars, but I work with farmers and food system stakeholders every day whose livelihoods are seriously at risk. I work with farmers whose personal relationships with their USDA representatives are strained and on the edge of crumbling because USDA reps want to reassure farmers that they will have access to their money. But farmers don’t want to risk using their own credit cards for fear of not being reimbursed.  The USDA has been a federally funded program since 1862, and farmers rely on it to grow OUR food. The nonprofits use federal dollars to provide free education to OUR new and beginning farmers as well as making sure low-income families are fed. I have felt hopeless more than once over the last few weeks until the end of that webinar.  When Attorney Christina Holder finished educating nonprofits on the actions they should be taking to address the various stages of funding they are in, the moderator Tyler Manley closed by reminding everyone of their resilience, how we survived 2008, how we survived the pandemic, and how we will survive now.  He was full of optimism and encouragement. I chatted, “Great hype, thank you!” and he unleashed the chat, allowing us to see each other’s comments and the heart emojis and cheer emojis FLOODED in. 500 farmers and nonprofits strong on the call, all cheering each other on.  I know we will make it. With or without the government, we will make it. But we must prevent as many casualties as possible along the way.  Check in on your local farmers and the food pantry down the road, then call your congressional representative and tell them their story. Then call the Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins office and share their story again. Conservation Law Foundation #resistance #food #farmers #foodsystem

    Marketing Coordinator

I recently learned about Catchafire, a platform that helps connect folks interested in volunteering with organizations that need their specific expertise. This week I tried it out for myself, and had a wonderful call with SACRD.org to brainstorm marketing and community outreach plans targeting demographics they want to expand their reach into. Not only did I get to use my skills in marketing, community outreach, and project planning, but I learned about an amazing organization in San Antonio and got to support their mission of keeping a freely accessible directory of human services available for folks in the area.
