Earlier this week, Simon Hill joined over 250 leaders from across the aquaculture sector at the Blue Food Innovation Summit, in London — an event dedicated to driving collaboration, innovation, and investment across the value chain. It was a great opportunity to listen and engage in meaningful conversations. As always, events like this can only scratch the surface, and we’re looking forward to continuing the discussions and building on the connections made. #BlueFoodSummit #AquacultureInnovation #SustainableSeafood #Collaboration #BlueEconomy

A pivotal moment for genome editing in aquaculture CAT’s CEO, John Buchanan, and genome editing field lead Matthew Josephson recently joined @Ramon Amaral, CEO of Brazilian Fish, in a conversation with The Fish Site to share more of the story behind our new strategic partnership. As previously announced, CAT is working with Brazilian Fish to integrate CAT’s genome editing technology into their breeding program — a major step in bringing this innovation out of the lab and into commercial-scale production. Get the story on: 🔹What 45% yield gains could mean for producers, consumers, and the environment 🔹Why sterility is key for both environmental protection and production security 🔹How CAT is uniquely positioned — with a mobile lab, expert team, breeding program know-how, and in-house genotyping lab 🔹The opportunity genome editing presents for consumers to increase access to nutritious, high-quality protein Read the full article here: https://hubs.la/Q03gCg5_0 #Aquaculture #GenomeEditing #Sustainability #BlueFood #FishFarming #Innovation #Genetics #GeneScene

We’re pleased to highlight Melissa Allen, our Genomic Lead, for her contribution as co-author of the recently published study: Application of Genomic Tools to Study and Potentially Improve the Upper Thermal Tolerance of Farmed Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) With climate change driving rising ocean temperatures and more frequent marine heat waves, the aquaculture industry must find solutions to enhance the thermal resilience of farmed salmon. This study explores the genetic basis of upper thermal tolerance, identifying key genomic markers and gene expression patterns that could help select for more temperature-tolerant fish. Key Findings: • Thermal tolerance is a polygenic trait with low/moderate heritability • Thermal growth coefficient (TGC) at elevated temperatures is highly heritable, offering strong potential for genetic improvement • Several putative biomarkers were identified, shedding light on mechanisms regulating temperature resilience Access the full paper here: https://hubs.la/Q03fMwyd0 #Genetics #AquacultureInnovation #SustainableFarming #GenomicSelection #AquacultureResearch #ThermalTolerance #AquacultureBreeding
