🌿 First Soil Laid on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing! A major milestone for California’s wildlife! Crews have begun placing the first layers of soil on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing over US-101. Over the next few weeks, more than 6,000 cubic yards of soil will be laid, preparing the bridge for the planting of native species that will restore vital habitat. Once completed in 2026, this crossing will be the largest wildlife bridge in the world, providing a safe passage for mountain lions, deer, and other wildlife—while making roads safer for everyone. Caltrans is honored to be part of this transformative effort alongside the National Wildlife Federation, the Annenberg Foundation, and a coalition of conservationists, agencies and partners committed to preserving California’s natural heritage. This crossing is more than just an engineering feat—it’s a symbol of co-existence, innovation, and a greener future. Stay tuned as we build a bridge not just for wildlife, but for generations to come.
