Gail A. Jackson, a beloved schoolteacher in Modesto, California, spent four decades shaping young minds—and now, her legacy will continue for generations to come. Gail recently made one of the largest bequest gifts in Blessings in a Backpack’s history, ensuring that children across the country will continue receiving food on the weekends. Since our founding, we’ve upheld a steadfast commitment to giving back to the communities where we live and work. This National Volunteer Month, our team participated in an in-office “packing event” to support Blessings in a Backpack for the third time to provide food for local school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry.   Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a positive impact. One of our volunteers shared a powerful reminder: a Blessings bag means more than food—it’s something kids can count on. Because of our amazing volunteers, children head into the weekend with full bags, familiar favorites, and the fuel to keep exploring, imagining, and being their brilliant selves.

Last night, I had the pleasure of joining the Springfield Rotary Club for some exhilarating rounds of Bingo at Culhane's Irish Pub. The games were intense, yet incredibly fun, all while supporting Blessings in a Backpack. Being part of this event provided a fantastic opportunity to connect with Rotary Club members and the local community. Together, we contributed in a meaningful way by supporting local youth and ensuring they do not go hungry. It was truly a heartwarming experience to come together for such a noble cause and make a positive impact on the lives of our community's youth. This week, the Hagerty team packed over 500 meal and snack bags for kids facing food insecurity in northern Michigan near our Traverse City headquarters, teaming up with Blessings in a Backpack and the Father Fred Foundation. This program ensures school-aged kids across the country have food to get them through the weekend when they might otherwise go hungry. So far in 2025, we’ve packed 1,660 bags of nonperishable food, and we’ll keep volunteering for this pressing cause through our Hagerty CARes Program. This sweet note from a fourth grader says it all. 💌 “Thank you for helping people all over the world… You have inspired others and me. You are such a great organization... now I want to show kindness too!” Each Blessings bag helps fuel kids with the nutrition they need—and inspires the next generation to spread kindness.

Each Monday, a student named Mia came to school tired, distracted, and upset. But by Friday, she was smiling again. Her teacher realized the cause—hunger. A Blessings in a Backpack program was started at her school, and everything changed. Now, she’s not just in class—she’s engaged. Last month, Blessings in a Backpack, Frederick Chapter hosted its annual Race to Feed Frederick event at Frederick Community College. Ninety participants packed 2,400 bags of food, and 55 volunteers donated 192.5 hours of service. Together, we raised more than $10,500 to support hunger-free weekends for children in Frederick County. This event is a testament to what’s possible when a community unites for a cause.
