Benesch is excited to sponsor the Safety and Technology track sessions at the upcoming 2025 National Association of County Engineers Conference! On April 15, Benesch’s David Cuthbertson, PE, will present on the I-55 at Weber Road Interchange—a $48 million project that transformed a traditional diamond interchange into a diverging diamond interchange to meet growing travel demands in Will County, Illinois. With added capacity, dual left-turn lanes, a shared-use path and modernized Intelligent Traffic System components, the project showcases how thoughtful design can enhance both mobility and safety. If you’re attending the conference, be sure to join Dave’s session! #BeneschPresents #NACE #Transportation

On April 10, Benesch’s Mark Lindemann, PE is presenting at the 2025 Shallow Exploration Drillers Clinic! Mark’s session will explore the unique geotechnical challenges and lessons learned from the NDOT Niobrara East and West project along Highway 12 in Nebraska. Rising water levels from the Missouri River caused frequent flooding on the highway, creating significant challenges for maintaining the roadway’s functionality and safety. The project team developed a solution by elevating approximately 12 miles of roadway using new embankments and bridges—reducing flood risk while maintaining access to some of Nebraska’s most scenic areas. If you’re attending the clinic, join this session to learn more! #BeneschPresents #Geotechnical

Next Wednesday, Benesch’s Rachel Spicer, PE is presenting alongside Michael Baker International’s Nathan Globosky at the 2025 Bridge & Tunnel Inspectors’ Conference! Their session will cover the inspection of two NSTM 2-girder bridges carrying US 50 over the Blue Mesa Reservoir, following the FHWA memo on Non-Destructive Testing of Fracture Critical Members. During the initial site visit, the team identified a weld defect that led to an emergency closure of this critical corridor. What followed was a coordinated effort to develop an access plan, perform ultrasonic testing and address critical findings. For our final #WomensHistoryMonth feature, we’re shining the spotlight on Elisabeth Schuck. Elisabeth has over 20 years of industry experience and is a subject matter expert in transit planning. Her expertise has been leveraged on major regional transit development plans and other large-scale transit initiatives for MPOs and local agencies in several states. As the Florida Division Manager, Elisabeth is working hard to deliver the best service to our clients and communities, something she’s always found rewarding. “I've always loved cities and urban places and naturally gravitated towards the field of planning early on. As a transit planner, being able to help communities better plan their public transit systems has been really rewarding.” Reflecting on her career, Elisabeth couldn’t help but notice how the industry is changing for the better. “So much progress has been made in terms of women's participation and involvement in STEM. When I attend a career fair or young professionals event now, it looks much different than when I graduated college. I hope to see this momentum continue with even more opportunities for women in leadership roles within the planning and engineering space.” As our #WHM celebration winds down, Elisabeth has one last bit of advice to share: “Trust your instincts and have the confidence to always bet on yourself. You'll often learn the most from the process and not the actual outcome.”
