Bellwether Housing is deeply saddened by the loss of Democratic Rep. Frank Chopp—a fearless architect of change who reshaped housing across Washington State. Frank devoted his life to the conviction that every person deserves dignity, stability, and hope. Under his leadership access to affordable housing expanded statewide, opportunities for homeownership grew in historically marginalized communities, and crucial support was secured for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Frank's unwavering dedication to justice and equity transformed lives and communities, and his impact will endure for generations.

Opportunity. Community. Home.
About us
Bellwether Housing builds and manages affordable housing for people of diverse backgrounds. We locate our homes in places where residents are able to share in the opportunity and prosperity of the Puget Sound region. We amplify our impact by helping other organizations do the same. Bellwether has a portfolio of 32 buildings that provide affordable homes to over 3,000 people. Our residents include families exiting homelessness, independent seniors, immigrants seeking opportunity, preschool teachers, social workers, artists, and young people just starting out. We take pride in creating and maintaining apartments that people want to call home. For residents in need of support, our team of Resident Services Coordinators link them to community resources and services that promote health, stability, and independence. Bellwether is working with an ambition that matches the urgency of our region's affordable housing crisis; in the next five years, we aim to develop 1,200 new affordable homes in King County.

Homelessness has been rising since 2017, driven by a massive shortage of affordable housing that's pushed prices up. Research finds that where rents go up, so does homelessness. That rise stalled during the pandemic when sweeping federal aid helped keep people housed. But since that help ended, people still face higher prices for housing, food, and other everyday goods.
