This year at PDAC, I set out with clear intentions to engage in meaningful and transformative conversations. My focus was on three areas relevant to the future of our industry: board succession and composition, evolving ESG strategies in today’s complex landscape, and actionable innovation. My takeaways: Women supporting women - one of the most energizing takeaways was witnessing the undeniable momentum of women in leadership roles across the industry. From the vibrant energy of The Femina Collective community to reconnecting with allies and female leaders, and in my first Canada Powered By Women roundtable, it’s simply awesome to be with so many amazing humans. This s especially significant in the face of setbacks like ISS | Institutional Shareholder Services’ recent decision to no longer consider race and gender in its voting recommendations. Despite these challenges, the resilience and determination of women are driving real change in our industry; thank you! ESG: a holistic approach - the conversations around ESG were equally compelling. While a vocal minority of climate skeptics may dominate headlines, most leaders are sharing the belief that a robust ESG strategy is good for business and all stakeholders. The holistic approach to ESG remains steadfast, with a focus on becoming a better partner with our host community and maintaining high environmental standards. What stood out to me was the noticeable growth in climate literacy across these discussions. It gives me hope that the industry is moving beyond compliance and are quietly advancing their strategy toward a future where sustainability is woven into the fabric of decision-making. Innovation: learning to collaborate – From a large showing of innovators at the trade show and at the conference to the oversubscribed BHP Think and Act Differently event, the appetite for collaboration was palpable. I loved the discussions on building new knowledge (instead of collecting data) and hearing innovators talk excitingly about their tractions a at PDAC. Shout out to ventures from Creative Destruction Lab minerals stream and my favourite start-ups who spent time here to learn about the industry. The sheer number of first-timers and innovators at the conference was a encouraging signal that with the right framework and support, we can accelerate the innovation agenda. By Wednesday afternoon, I was equal parts exhausted & energized. The week left me with a renewed sense of optimism about the future of mining and the role I can play in shaping it. While I wish I could have connected with more people and attended more events, the time constraints pushed me to be more intentional and creative in my interactions. If we didn’t get a chance to connect, please reach out! Special thanks to CPM Group for having me as a sponsor at their Gold and Silver Reception, Beth Borody CDI.D and Heather Gamble for your invitations to dinners, and catching up with Boyd Davis and Josh Rubenstein from our Queen's days!
