This Earth Day, we’re reflecting on nature’s remarkable ability to heal. The site for the Bryan Health April Sampson Cancer Center is defined by gently rolling hills, light woodlands, and a natural pond. Embracing the existing topography, the iconic structure is nestled into the slope, tracing the land’s contours. Cancer can be a traumatic and persistent illness in which patients endure life-altering diagnoses, iterative and prolonged treatment regimens, and increasingly, life-mending healing. The center is designed around this continuum of a patient’s experience and strives to enhance the processes of healing and health through reconnecting and heightening relationships to natural systems. Exciting Progress at the New Inova Alexandria Campus! Four tower cranes are hard at work, lifting concrete and materials as we lay the groundwork for the future of healthcare in Alexandria. The retaining walls and structural foundations are taking shape, while excavation continues for footers and concrete columns rise to build this state-of-the-art facility. This brand-new medical campus will elevate and expand the excellent care we already provide, offering our community an upgraded, innovative space designed to meet the needs of future generations. The new Inova Health Center – Oakville in Alexandria, Virginia has opened its doors to provide emergency care, imaging, ambulatory surgery to the growing neighborhood and beyond. Designed by Ballinger and Ennead Architects and completed in late 2024, this 100,000-square-foot center is part of Inova's initiative to expand healthcare services in Northern Virginia. A standout feature is the building's green roof and amenity deck that help contribute to the overall sustainability goals of Inova Health. These spaces not only enhance the aesthetics but also support environmental health by reducing stormwater runoff and promoting biodiversity. 14,600 square feet of critical hospital space is being protected with the Garden Roof® and Ultimate Assembly® with an additional 19,600 square feet of plaza waterproofing anchored by Hydrotech® Monolithic Membrane 6125®.
