About us
Ballinger's Philadelphia-based, integrated team of architects, engineers, planners, and interior designers works with visionary institutions to create places that empower those who shape the future. The challenges that are easiest to meet are rarely the challenges that need us the most. The ones that need us the most are the thorny ones, the interconnected ones, the ones that involve multiple systems and stakeholders, and that can unlock great achievements.

Ballinger team members Chao-Chi Lin, Karen A. Supinski, SHRM-CP, PHR, Gallup Strengths Coach, and Corin Gearhart volunteered with Children's Village, a nationally accredited early childhood education center in Philadelphia. Through play, learning, and hands-on activities, we were honored to support their mission of providing quality education for young and school-age children. Given the significant energy demands of chemistry facilities like the University of Maryland Chemistry Research Building, sustainability was at the forefront of design decisions. Exterior solar shading and ceramic frit coatings integral to the building’s character, manage indoor comfort, increase energy efficiency and preserve access to natural light. The colloquia room is thoughtfully positioned above a transparent Bio NMR core facility, providing shading for the temperature-sensitive environment while enabling abundant views from the adjacent campus passage. A novel approach of using heat recovery chillers to harvest waste heat from a neighboring central utility plant eliminates all fossil fuels to achieve an operationally carbon neutral building. 📷: James Ewing University of Maryland #Architecture #Engineering #Ballinger #UMD
