Today is World Autism Awareness Day—a time to celebrate neurodiversity, promote inclusion, and advocate for acceptance and support. Autism is a lifelong condition that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others, but every individual’s experience is unique. Today is World Down Syndrome Day! Down syndrome is a genetic condition where a person has an extra 21st chromosome, meaning they have 47 chromosomes instead of 46. Chromosomes help determine how we grow, look, and function. People with Down syndrome may have intellectual disabilities and be more likely to experience certain health conditions. The condition occurs naturally and affects about 1 in every 800 babies worldwide.
