Christie's held a roundtable discussion exploring the art historical significance, attribution, provenance, and settlement around Lucas Cranach and workshop’s Portrait of George the Bearded, Duke of Saxony painting on February 3, 2025 at their Rockefeller Center showroom. The painting had been in the collection of the Allentown Art Museum and was sold at Christie’s at their February 5, 2025 Old Master Sale in New York per an agreement between the museum and the heirs of German Jewish collector Henry Bromberg. The panel was moderated by Richard Aronowitz, Christie’s Global Head of Restitution, and Eileen Brankovic, Christie’s International Business Director of Restitution, and featured Elaine Mehalakes, Vice President of Curatorial Affairs, Allentown Art Museum, Nicholas O’Donnell, Partner, Sullivan & Worcester, and Joshua Glazer, Christie’s Old Master specialist.
