Let’s understand the economics of sustainable forestry 🌳 Sustainable forestry is often misunderstood. Some see it as a purely ecological effort, while others question its financial viability. Fiddlesticks! It must be both! At our recent TIE Roundtable in Frankfurt, Harald Meilicke challenged conventional wisdom and laid out a smarter, more profitable approach to forest management. Key insights from his talk: 🔹 Wood usage is both economically sound and good for the climate – Harvesting and using wood efficiently locks in carbon while supporting a sustainable industry. 🔹 "Plant and forget" doesn’t work – Forests need active management, not just trees in the ground. Long-term stewardship is key to both ecological and financial sustainability. 🔹 Nature alone can’t solve the climate crisis – Climate change is far faster than natural adaptation. Human intervention and investment are crucial. 🔹 Profitability drives sustainability – A thriving forestry sector is the best defense against deforestation. When forests are valuable, they’re preserved. Harald’s message was clear: The future of forestry isn’t about choosing between nature and economics. It’s about making them work together.
