We’re still hiring! Arête is on the lookout for an exceptional Executive Director to lead our growing organization. This is a rare chance to shape the future of an early-stage climate nonprofit tackling one of the most pressing risks of our time: catastrophic sea level rise due to marine ice sheet destabilization. As ED, you’ll drive strategy, partnerships, and fundraising, while building and leading a top-tier team dedicated to improving sea-level rise forecasting and accelerating research on ice sheet stabilization interventions. You'll be working alongside a stellar founding team that includes Brent Minchew (current acting ED and Associate Professor of Geophysics, MIT), Colin Meyer (Assistant Professor of Engineering, Dartmouth), Lauren Mahle (Director of Programs and Partnerships) and other leaders from philanthropy, policy, and the nonprofit sectors. We’re seeking candidates with experience building new organizations or initiatives, a proven track record of fundraising and driving growth in emerging fields, and a genuine curiosity about climate intervention and glacier stabilization. 🔗 Learn more about Arête: www.areteglaciers.org 📌 See the full job description and how to apply: https://bit.ly/4giBVyE 💬 Questions? Arête Glacier Initiative
Climate Data and Analytics
Understanding the risks of catastrophic sea-level rise and developing responsible interventions to stabilize ice sheets.
About us
Arête Glacier Initiative is a new mission-driven research non-profit established to assess and reduce the risks of catastrophic sea-level rise. We’re dedicated to tackling one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the risk of catastrophic sea-level rise driven by the destabilization of ocean-bound Antarctic glaciers. By advancing research on sea-level rise modeling, monitoring, and observational technology, we aim to improve forecasts to inform mitigation and adaptation strategies. We also assess the safety, feasibility, and effectiveness of potential interventions to stabilize ice sheets and reduce rates of sea-level rise, enabling science-based societal decisions to address the impacts of climate change and protect at-risk communities.

🎉 We’re officially live! Arête Glacier Initiative is launching today - on the United Nations’ first World Day for Glaciers - to accelerate research to improve sea-level rise forecasts and evaluate potential interventions that could stabilize ocean-bound Antarctic glaciers and prevent catastrophic sea-level rise. You can read about us in this new piece by MIT Tech Review here: https://shorturl.at/mNeid Many thanks go to the generous support of our funders, Outlier Projects, Kissick Family Foundation, The Navigation Fund, The Sky Foundation, The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, and the Wedner Family Foundation, who recognize the urgency of advancing this research. Their support allows us to fund and coordinate critical research that improves sea-level rise forecasting, expands observational capabilities, and assesses potential interventions. We’re also excited to announce our first Request for Proposals (RFP), focused on retrieving and analyzing critical glacial data currently stored in non-public locations - making it accessible to researchers and improving sea-level rise predictions.
