🌊 How can we strengthen aquaculture development in your country? The answer might be closer than we think: in the local market and in supporting national producers. In his latest article, Dr. Antonio Garza de Yta reflects on the importance of adapting aquaculture development strategies to the specific realities of each country. Producing in Mexico or Brazil is not the same as in Honduras or Oman, and understanding this is key to sustainable growth. 📌 What role do domestic markets play in countries with large populations? 📌 How does unfair competition with imported products affect the industry? 📌 What measures could level the playing field for local producers? 👉 I invite you to read the full article: “Key to Aquaculture Development: Local Market and Support for Local Producers” ✍️ By Antonio Garza de Yta, Ph.D 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dWBPXKRE #Aquaculture #Sustainability #LocalProduction #DomesticMarket #EconomicDevelopment #AntonioGarzaDeYta

♻️🐟 Is it possible to replace fish meal in abalone feed? The answer might be closer than we think… and it comes from chicken 🐔 In their latest article, the Aquaculture Magazine editorial team presents the results of a study exploring the use of chicken by-product meal (CBM) as a substitute for anchovy fish meal (FM) in the diet of juvenile abalone (Haliotis discus hannai). 🔬 What did they discover? ✔️ CBM can replace up to 50% of fish meal without affecting the abalone's growth or survival. ✔️ It’s a more economical and sustainable alternative, aligned with circular economy principles. ✔️ Comparable results in growth performance, shell length and width. 🌱 With rising demand and limited marine resources, using animal by-products could pave the way toward more sustainable and efficient aquaculture. 📖 Read the full article here: Chicken By-Product Meal as a Replacement to Fish Meal in Juvenile Abalone Feed. 👇🏻 https://lnkd.in/d4wBrdtM #SustainableAquaculture #Abalone #FishMeal #ChickenByproducts #Aquafeed #CircularEconomy #FeedInnovation #AquacultureMagazine #Sustainability #BlueFood

🔍 How safe and transparent is the seafood supply chain? The latest article by FishProf invites us to seriously reflect on the impact of fraud in the seafood industry and how it undermines consumer trust. 📌 In Fraud Impacts Trust – Part 2, the article dives deeper into the types of food fraud, recent regulatory advancements (such as the work done by Codex Alimentarius), and real-world cases from countries like Australia, the U.S., and Spain. 💡 FishProf also presents a clever way to remember the different types of fraud using the acronym CADMUS, a name rooted in Greek mythology that perfectly aligns with the mission of educating and promoting ethical practices. 🌍 This is an urgent call to action for all players in the sector: producers, traders, governments, and consumers. The industry can’t afford to wait for others to lead the agenda. Trust must be built from within. 👉 Read the full article here: 📖 Fraud Impacts Trust (Part 2) by FishProf. 👇🏻 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dc4t4DZV #SeafoodTransparency #FishFraud #FoodIntegrity #CodexAlimentarius #Sustainability #FoodFraud #SeafoodIndustry #FishProf #FoodSafety #Traceability #ConsumerTrust

🐟 Kenya’s Aquaculture Moves Toward a More Ethical and Sustainable Future 🌱 At Ethical Seafood Research (ESR), we celebrate a new milestone in the Kenya Fish Welfare Project with the official launch of the FAI Tilapia Welfare App in 🇰🇪📲 In partnership with FAI and the Kenya Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), we’ve introduced this digital tool alongside practical training to improve tilapia welfare and farm performance across the country. 🔍 Why is this important? - Responds to Kenya’s growing demand for tilapia. - Promotes productive practices while prioritizing animal welfare. - Integrates technology, training, and real-time monitoring for extension officers and producers. 🧪 Over 30 extension officers from 9 counties took part in both theoretical and practical workshops on welfare, water quality, use of the app, and on-farm assessments. 🌍 “We’re applying successful learnings from Egypt and adapting them to the aquaculture context in East Africa,” said Wasseem Emam, founder of ESR. 🙌 With support from KMFRI, FAI, and the Craigslist Charitable Fund, this project continues to expand, transforming Kenyan aquaculture from the ground up. 📲 Learn more about how we’re improving fish welfare and farm efficiency in Kenya: 👇🏻 🔗 https://lnkd.in/diqHVYfp #ESR #FAI #TilapiaWelfare #ResponsibleAquaculture #AquacultureInnovation #WelfareInAquaculture #Kenya #Tilapia #FishWelfare #AquacultureDevelopment #FAIApp #Sustainability #AquacultureTraining
