The Appalachian Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is hiring two interns at the C&O Canal National Historical Park's Williamsport location to educate park visitors on the history of the Canal. Our Interpretation Individual Placement will run from May 14th to Nov. 7th and our Digital Interpretation Individual Placement will run from May 14th to May 8th, 2026. Both positions are based out of Williamsport, MD. Pay is $650/week and members will receive a $453 budget for professional development and an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award to pay back federal loans or for additional schooling. Full-Time Job Opportunity! 🌱 Check out this Buffer Assessment Individual Placement opportunity with Appalachian Conservation Corps (ACC). This individual will help perform site assessments and develop maintenance plans for riparian forest buffers and other tree planting best management practices, as a part of the ACC Watersheds Corps. This intern will create a work plan for a follow up planting crew in the fall. This is a temporary position and will serve as an AmeriCorps member with ACC but will also be working closely with Friends Of The Rappahannock, Virginia Department of Forestry, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and many other of our partners. 🔥 A huge shoutout to the Women's Fire cohort out of Appalachian Conservation Corps for their incredible service as they work in and around New River Gorge National Park and Shenandoah National Park! 🌲 These trailblazers are working hard on the frontlines of wildland firefighting and natural resource management, protecting our public lands while gaining essential hands-on experience and certifications. From tackling tough terrain and extreme conditions to managing wildfire risks, they’re going above and beyond in their service. This program not only prepares them for careers in firefighting, but also connects them with federal employees and equips them with the tools to navigate the federal land management system! We are SO excited to celebrate Kristian Broche, an Individual Placement currently serving his second term with our program, who was just awarded a Service Year Alum Award! This award celebrates corps members who went above and beyond to bridge divides across lines of difference. Kristian's goal was to bridge cultural and linguistic divides between Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park and local Latino communities. By creating bilingual boat tours and culturally relevant activities, Kris connected Latino families with the park’s history, fostered inclusion and a sense of belonging, and enriched the park’s engagement with a broader audience. This approach not only encouraged a more diverse visitor base but also enhanced the park’s role as a shared space, fostering a sense of community among all visitors. Our Chesapeake Gateways Ambassador will serve in Annapolis, MD, with the NPS Chesapeake Gateways — a network of nearly 300 parks, refuges, museums, historic communities, and water trails in the watershed.
