We are honored to welcome the USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO 206) to Alabama Shipyard for its Post-Shakedown Availability (PSA)! A PSA is designed to address any issues or enhancements identified during the vessel’s initial operational period, ensuring the ship remains mission-ready. The Harvey Milk, a replenishment oiler, plays a vital role in refueling Navy vessels at sea, keeping our fleet operational and connected.

Mayor Mitchell joined Steamship Authority Board Chairman Robert Jones, chief executive officer at Alabama Shipyard LLC Greg Wagner, and others to celebrate the newly refurbished ferry. Mayor Mitchell: "This boat is public infrastructure. It is functionally a bridge ... infrastructure investments should not be partisan issue. Today we remember those we lost; may we never forget.

Today we welcomed the USNS Supply (T-AOE 6) to Alabama Shipyard and the great city of Mobile. The AOE class vessels are the largest combat logistics ships for the Navy and their purpose is to restock, refuel, and rearm Navy ships.

It’s time to kick off another exciting conversion! Last week, Alabama Shipyard welcomed its third Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV), and work is already underway to transform it into a ferry, just like its two sister ships. The initial step involved moving the OSV onto land to facilitate the main conversion work. We began by docking the vessel on the Dry Dock Alabama and transferring it onto a barge. Using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), we carefully rolled the OSV off the barge and onto land. The process went off without a hitch, thanks to the expertise and dedication of our talented employees and subcontractors!
