The link below provides a summary of the IMO's Net Zero Framework. The framework sets threshold values for "well to wake" emissions from fuels. Until 2035, the threshold is 19 g CO2e/MJ, and afterwards the threshold is 14 g CO2e/MJ. Wind is a truly zero emission fuel source. And while wind can provide real propulsion for ships, it is largely being overlooked in the policy framework. Wind Propulsion is often considered an efficiency measure. However, efficiency measures will not independently provide thrust to the ship. So, Wind Propulsion should not be bundled with efficiency measures in terms of policy. It should be seen as a fuel source - with 0g CO2e/MJ. Further, it requires no infrastructure. And it is available now. From an macroeconomic perspective, this is a "no brainer". With the right policy levers it will also become a "no brainer" for ship owners, operators and charterers. With the right Wind Propulsion device, supported by the right business model, it already is! Further, Wind Propulsion is not a throwback to the sailing ships of old. In most instances it is an assistance measure, complementary to engines. It involves advanced aerodynamics to optimise the propulsive force generated on a vessel which is moving at, say 12 - 14 knots, where apparent winds are almost always from forward of the beam of the vessel. So get on board, and get it on board! https://lnkd.in/gMV-DnHq
About us
The Advanced Wing Systems Semi Rigid Wing (SRW) sail is the optimum combination of performance and practicality. It is the result of extensive research, modelling and practical testing. It provides a practical combination of aerodynamic performance and robustness in design. Our system is suited to almost any sized yacht, from off the beach craft to super yachts. The simple and robust design means it can withstand the rigours of ocean sailing and racing.

Advanced Wing Systems is proud to be working with IHPC.
🌊 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 Excited to share that A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing (A*STAR IHPC) is leading the Wind-Assisted Propulsion System (WAPS) Programme, supported by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI)! This initiative targets up to 30% fuel and emission savings in the near term by optimising sail-ship-voyage solutions from innovative WAPS start-ups like Advanced Wing Systems and GT Wings, leveraging vessel and route data from shipping partners like DryLog Ltd., Stolt Tankers, and Union Maritime Ltd. — with more companies expected to join. Wind propulsion serves as a complementary zero-emission solution, helping tackle immediate greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction challenges and supporting the IMO’s 2030 and 2040 decarbonisation goals. Beyond near-term gains, A*STAR IHPC is advancing mid- to long-term R&D on hybrid wind-propelled vessel concepts, aiming significant energy savings — a research pillar in the A*STAR Centre for Maritime Digitalisation (C4MD)’s research roadmap. With MPA and SMI’s support, the programme offers opportunities for test-bedding and real-world trials, accelerating the adoption of next-gen WAPS technologies. A*STAR IHPC will leverage physics-driven, machine learning–assisted coupled simulations, combined with route operational data analysis, to recommend designs and favourable routes for greater cost savings and emission reduction. Let’s chart a course toward sustainable, green shipping! 🌍⚓ Thank you, Eng Dih Teo, Chief Executive, MPA for witnessing this strategic milestone. 📷 MPA #IHPC #Innovation #Sustainability #MaritimeDecarbonisation #WindPropulsion

We are delighted to welcome Advanced Wing Systems as one of our Bronze Sponsors for the Wind Propulsion Asia Summit in Singapore💡🤝 Advanced Wing Systems are committed to decarbonizing global shipping through cutting-edge, cost-effective modular wing sail technology for both legacy and new build ships. This event will draw more than 100 industry representatives and wind propulsion experts next week, on Tuesday March 25 and Wednesday March 26 for the two-day summit and exhibition at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. IWSA is extremely grateful to our Summit sponsors for their supporting role in bringing the industry together for this pivotal wind propulsion summit where we will take a ‘Noon Report’ of direct wind propulsion energy use in the shipping industry to date and look to the future of wind propulsion technology use. The exhibition area (Floor 3, rooms 309-311) will be open throughout the summit, but especially interactive during the break and networking times on each day (1100-1130, 1300-1400 and 1530-1600). There is still time to complete this survey!
Today, IWSA has launched the Low/Zero Emission Vessels & Wind Propulsion Survey 2025. This survey asks a series of key questions regarding low- and zero-emissions energy options for shipping including specific questions relating to wind propulsion technology, barriers to further deployment of wind technologies and drivers helping to scale and build on the current momentum. We invite all maritime stakeholders (#shipowners, #charterers, #cargoowners, #navalarchitects, #ports and #maritime policy makers etc.) to take part in this anonymous survey which will take roughly 10 minutes. The results of this survey will increase IWSA's understanding of industry and policy maker perspectives regarding wind propulsion technologies and the results will help to inform IWSA’s future work. Your feedback is important and the results will form part of a publicly available market report to be released in the next couple of months. Survey end date: 14 March, 2025 (extended deadline on popular demand - 14 April) [NOTE: This is a general survey and not for IWSA members - IWSA members are requested to help to further disseminate this survey] #shipping #shippingindustry #shipsandshipping #windassist #windpropulsion #maritimeindustry #sustainableshipping https://lnkd.in/eHsA9zwt

Advanced Wing Systems has solutions for the small vessel sector which have far greater efficiency than conventional sail systems. Our stayed wing sails increase the thrust and the operating wind range substantially and can easily replace conventional sail plans. This translates into improved economic performance by significantly reducing transit times. If you want to know more get in touch at info@advancedwingsystems.com
We are delighted to release the first IWSA Small Windships Publication, a collection of essays, papers, project outlines and survey results. This will be an annual collection and we hope that it will be a place to bring together the small windship community to discuss the issues, challenge the barriers and celebrate the successes. #shipping #shipsandshipping #maritime #sailcargo #sailing #windpropulsion Gavin Allwright Steven Woods Geoff Boerne Note: This collection reflects the views and positions held by the authors and don't necessarily reflect the opinions of the editors or IWSA. https://lnkd.in/eXrKz4UA

Our RETROFIT55 partners, Advanced Wing Systems & Atlantec Enterprise Solutions, visited SMM Hamburg last week. A scale model of the Flexible Wing Sail system was on display and fascinated visitors at the exhibition, while visitors were able to get a sneak preview of the Decision Support System (DSS), which is one of the major outputs of this project. A big word of thanks to all the visitors for all the interesting discussions. We look forward to seeing you at the next event! #retrofit55 #wasp #dss #configurator #smm #AdvancedWingSystems #AtlantecEnterpriseSolutions #DecisionSupportSystem

Last week, SMM Hamburg was a great success. We had the opportunity to interact with many industry stakeholders, with very positive feedback. This week we are at the Friendship Systems CAESES users conference in Potsdam, Germany, with the same type of feedback. We have quite a lot to follow up and the outlook is good.
