Influencer marketing is one of the most rapidly growing digital channels/strategies we've seen since the advent of social platforms. I've had a front row seat to the evolution over the past four years, with countless conversations across my teams, brands, agencies, and Influencer management platforms. [Check out my "Influencer and Creator Week" content from last fall: https://lnkd.in/encjTmfF] From my research and analysis, one thing is certain: Influencer Marketing is still a nascent, emerging channel without standardization, universal best practices, or generally accepted guidelines. PR and media agencies will state that Influencer Marketing is an upper funnel pure brand strategy. Brands are still often approaching this independently, managing outreach and contracting all on their own. There is an influx of new Influencer platforms that offer multiple different benefits for outreach, scale, and measurement. There is an inconsistency in creator payment structures, levels, KPI, and ROI expectations. Contracts are also not standardized, leaving creators and brands at risk. Affiliate agencies have perfected partner marketing, commission based initiatives that have proven to be a successful expansion into Influencer and Creator Marketing, but outside of the Affiliate world, not all marketers realize this.
