If federal funding for Head Start were eliminated in the coming months, it would be devastating for children, families, and whole communities. #bwfearlychildhood https://lnkd.in/gQnv5Jad

Working to ensure affordable, accessible and quality childcare is available for all families who need it.
About us
Utah families face significant challenges navigating the childcare landscape with issues related to accessibility, affordability, and quality complicating the very personal and critical decisions families face. The U.S. Department of the Treasury has identified a ‘market failure’ in the childcare sector, indicating a disconnect between the current services and what’s in the best interest of children and families. The child care industry operates as a private market where the cost for both consumers and childcare business owners limits the system's ability to support families. Additionally, those who work in child care often do not earn a living age. A Bolder Way Forward Childcare/Pre-K spoke leaders, affiliates, and partners will work together to improve access to affordable, high quality childcare to ensure the long-term health and prosperity of Utah children, families and the state.

Please take the time to read this article. Four counties in Utah currently have no access to licensed childcare. Families and business owners are celebrating that that will soon change in Wayne county. "Everyone has a story" about childcare in Wayne county and many businesses have trouble with staffing because their employees don't have childcare. And yet the legislature recently rejected a bill that would have expanded childcare access because it would "inadvertently be pulling children away from home-based childcare." Well, in this case it would be pulling them away from going to work at Blackburn Propane since their mother had no other options. #bwfearlychildhood https://lnkd.in/gTrtbxJk

Despite being in the midst of "an ongoing child care crisis" and being consistently ranked as one of the worst states for women, the Women in the Economy subcommittee was axed in the last hours of the legislative session. "[The Women in the Economy subcommittee] was eliminated because people don't see the need for it,” Thomas said. “Ten years ago, they were at least pretending that this stuff mattered to them because they knew it mattered to the public. They're just not pretending anymore. They just don't care, and they don't care what people think about it.” Thomas said Utah leaders have talked about child care problems more in the past few years, but have done little to solve them. “My most generous interpretation is that the needle is not moving because there is not much you can do to address the child care crisis without spending significant public funding,” Thomas said. “You run out of options really fast if you're not willing to spend any money.” Read the full article below: #bwfearlychildhood https://lnkd.in/euRfG8zc

And finally, for some good news! The local needs-based childcare scholarship funded by Park City and Summit County has concluded its inaugural year--and the results are in. Park City Community Foundation Earlychildhoodalliance "This transformative impact is evident in testimonials from families included in the report. For some families, it meant being able to stay in Park City—something they thought was no longer possible. Others shared how the program helped them secure long-term housing or access better quality care. For many, it meant the ability to remain employed, pursue a promotion, or unlock greater financial opportunities for their families:" Not only did this scholarship help childcare providers and families, it provided strong economic returns to the community as well. "The report finds that every dollar invested in the program generated at least $3.13 in economic impact, delivering a strong return for the community." #bwfearlychildhood https://lnkd.in/gvKhbPNh

"Kathryn Anne explained why child care isn’t a personal parenting problem—it’s an economic one." #bwfearlychildhood
Repeat after us: Moms do not have hobby jobs. 👏 Yesterday, labor economist and Bloomberg opinion columnist Dr. Kathryn Anne Edwards joined our Motherhood Community call to break down the economic realities impacting moms. From the skyrocketing cost of child care to the misconceptions policymakers hold, Kathryn Anne explained why child care isn’t a personal parenting problem—it’s an economic one. Moms are the backbone of our economy, yet too often, the system treats working motherhood like a choice rather than a necessity. We talked about what needs to change, how we can hold leaders accountable, and how, together, we can drive change. A huge thank you to everyone who joined this conversation and shared their experience. Weren’t able to make it? Watch the full recording at https://bit.ly/4aWvvE9.
