Research lab

We offer administrative support to the University Research Ethics Boards (REBs) and work with researchers to ensure that their research projects respect all applicable guidelines, including those of the Tri-councils (SSHRC, NSERC and CIHR).

Did you know?

  • EREVIEWS: The new online submission portal, eReviews, has now been launched with the School of Psychology, the Faculty of Education, Telfer School of Management, the Faculty of Law, the School of Human Kinetics and the School of Nursing.  All new ethics applications from researchers in these units should be submitted via eReviews.  Please contact the Ethics Office (ethics@uottawa.ca) if you have not received prior communications to this effect or if you have any questions about the process.
  • JANUARY SUBMISSIONS: Please note that, exceptionally, the submission date in January will not be the first working day of the month, but rather January 8th. This will give researchers time to consult the Ethics Office staff if needed upon the return to work on January 3rd.
  • Faculty of Medicine: Researchers working on a project in which students from the Faculty of Medicine will be recruited as participants must first obtain approval from the Faculty of Medicine to conduct the project.  This approval must be obtained before an ethics application can be submitted for review by the REB.  Please contact Dr. Melissa Forgie for further details.
  • Update on FluidSurvey: Canadian servers for SurveyMonkey are now available.  Information Technology is currently configuring and setting up access to SurveyMonkey for our users, we will have more details about the registration process in the upcoming weeks. The vendor of FluidSurvey will continue to prolong the availability of the survey tool and stored data for several months.  You can continue using FluidSurvey, but it will be decommissioned December 12, 2017.  Once FluidSurvey is decommissioned, accounts will be put on "Export mode"; data will only be available for export.  The data may only be accessible for a short period of time, sto take this opportunity to review your stored data and delete anything that is no longer useful.  For any questions of concerns, please contact the University IT team.
  • The Office of Research Ethics and Integrity has produced an internal guidelines document in order to help researchers navigate the REB process at the University of Ottawa.
  • An online tutorial for the 2nd edition of the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS 2) is now available.
Note: Please make sure you use your University email address when you register so that we can confirm your completion of the tutorial.
