Minutes and Resolutions Telecon 2011-02-16

• Koji Ishii taking editorship of CSS Line Grid module
• Reviewed status of CSS2.1 test results and issues list
• Whether root element is a block formatting context root deferred to CSS2.1 errata (currently undefined), to allow time for investigation implications. (CSS2.1 Issue 209)
• Resolved: Remove gamma-correction note from CSS2.1. (CSS2.1 Issue 221)
• Resolved: Make containing block formed by relatively-positioned inline that is split across lines undefined. (CSS2.1 Issue 215)
• Resolved: Drop vertical-align from list of properties required to apply to ::first-line. (CSS2.1 Issue 216)
• Tentatively Resolved: Remove 3 lines from multicol pseudo-algorithm that relaxes column-gap when column-count requires too many columns. Pending Håkon's review.
• Discussed interaction of HTML and Selectors spec wrt :active.

New CSS3 Publications: Backgrounds and Borders CR, Text WD, Image Values and Replaced Content WD

The CSSWG has published several new drafts this week:

CSS Backgrounds and Borders Level 3 Candidate Recommendation

This is the second Candidate Recommendation of CSS Backgrounds and Borders Level 3, and should be quite stable going forward. Changes since the last CR are listed. There are already implementations of various features out in the wild; the CSSWG welcomes any help creating a test suite.

CSS Text level 3 Working Draft

This module covers typesetting features and expands to handle various international requirements. With the addition of the hyphenation properties pulled from CSS3 GCPM, this draft is now solidly in the refining stage. Feedback is welcomed, especially from the Southeast Asian, South Asian, and Arabic script communities, from whom feedback has been noticeably lacking thus far.

CSS Image Values and Replaced Content Working Draft

This long-overdue update to the /TR page includes CSS gradients, and has also pulled in the various replaced-element manipulating properties from CSS3 GCPM and CSS3 Paged Media. Feedback is welcome on all aspects, but particularly on the gradients syntax.

• Reviewed blocking tests in CSS2.1 test suite. Needed fixes listed on blocking page. Opera to investigate fixes for quotes-035, replaced-intrinsic-001, orphans-004a. Still need implementations for allowed-page-breaks-001a, forced-page-breaks-000, uri-016.
• Reviewed state of CSS2.1 issues list.
• CSS3 Backgrounds and Borders CR still blocked by Director's approval step due lack of required telecon.
• Brief discussion about CSS Variables
• Brief discussion about multicol algorithm to determine column count, to be continued next week.
• Resolved: Publish CSS3 Text as updated Working Draft.

New Working Draft: CSS Writing Modes Level 3

Last week a new Working Draft of the CSS Writing Modes Module Level 3 was published. This module covers BIDI and vertical text. Major changes since the last draft include an editorial overhaul, more details on the interaction of orthogonal flows, changes in requirements for horizontal-in-vertical feature, and some other minor tweaks to how things interact; no syntax was added or changed.

Minutes and Resolutions Telecon 2011-02-02

• Reviewed status of CSS2.1: some edits to be made, issues list needs updating, some tests need updating
• Resolved: Remove 'mark' properties from CSS3 Speech
• Discussed speak: none and replacing it with an independent property. See fantasai's messages for problem and possible solution.
• Discussed phonemes property. Key question is whether it is stylistic and belongs in CSS.
