🌍 Today we mark 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙀𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝘿𝙖𝙮 — a powerful reminder, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2009, that our planet and its ecosystems are our shared home. Protecting them is not optional—it's essential to our survival, well-being, and future prosperity. https://lnkd.in/dQVRUukW From accelerating climate change to alarming biodiversity loss, the challenges before us are urgent and unprecedented. Human-driven actions—deforestation, illegal wildlife trade, unsustainable agriculture, and land-use change—are pushing our planet to its limits. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres aptly stated, "This year is critical." We must act boldly and decisively: ✅ Align national climate action plans with the 1.5°C target ✅ Accelerate the global shift to clean energy ✅ Combat pollution and halt biodiversity loss ✅ Mobilize climate finance where it’s needed most https://lnkd.in/eVVEwzRv In the lead-up to #Stockholm50, the UN Environment Programme and the UN University Centre for Policy Research launched “Reimagining the Human-Environment Relationship” — an initiative aimed at elevating alternative, often underrepresented voices and paradigms, to help us rethink how we relate to nature, and to help shape future policymaking through inclusive, transformative perspectives. https://lnkd.in/eVWcaFr5 Looking ahead, the upcoming Education World Forum — "𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩: 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳, 𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳, 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳" — will explore in dedicated sessions how education systems can drive sustainable development, and strategies, policy and action for development of green skills. https://lnkd.in/eTe5jBJb #EWF25 #MotherEarthDay #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Biodiversity #GreenSkills

Soon there will be more students studying for a UK degree outside the UK than in the UK itself, experts predict. UK degrees are now being earned in 228 countries, with these “transnational education” (TNE) student numbers growing from 438,615 in 2020 to 621,065 in 2024: a rise of 42 per cent. TNE is an effective response to increasing visa restrictions and international students’ concerns about the cost and the return on investment of study abroad. But opportunistic, “short-term, financially-driven TNE, motivated by fluctuations in international student mobility and solely focused on student numbers” is damaging and dangerous, writes Vangelis Tsiligkiris for Times Higher Education. Meeting the demand for more advanced forms of TNE requires investment, human capital and technological infrastructure, he says. What do you think? #TNE #transnationaleducation #intled #internationaleducation #studyabroad https://lnkd.in/eVMZx_AT
