We were excited to see NVIDIA’s announcement of Silicon Photonics CPO (Co-Packaged Optics) last week, signalling the importance of integrated photonics in addressing the needs of AI infrastructure.
Today we announce that Wave Photonics has acquired the intangible assets of Phoelex, a silicon photonics transceiver and CPO company, including IP on an energy-efficient modulator, driving and control circuits, and equaliser circuit designs. This will enable us to serve the needs of customers developing photonic solutions for datacentres.

Wave Photonics Announces Silicon Nitride Process for Quantum Photonics with the World’s Most Expansive PDK. I’m in London at the TOP Conference and next to the Optica stand I bumped into Wave Photonics. They are a Cambridge UK based Deep Tech start-up specialised in integrated photonics design. In the video below I spoke with Aidong Xu, who heads Business Development at Wave Photonics. Last month, they announced the availability of the SiNQ process – a silicon nitride process fabricated by CORNERSTONE for quantum systems and emitters. The process is supported by Wave Photonics’ 1056-element PDK, supporting 33 wavelengths from 493nm to 1550nm.
The diversity of wavelengths used in quantum technologies, spanning through the visible range and into the infrared, has long presented a challenge for photonic integration. The PDK is based on Wave Photonics core computational design technology, which enables the production of designs which account for fabrication imperfections. Wafer-scale measured data from the Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult shows a 2x improvement in component performance uniformity relative to conventional inverse-designed components.
Compatibility
The PDK works out-of-the-box with GDSFactory and Siemens L-Edit, and will shortly be available for Luceda Photonics’s IPKISS. It is ready to use with the turnkey QPICPAC packaging service (made together with ALTER TECHNOLOGY TUV NORD UK LTD), and it offers built-in compatibility with the PHIX Photonics Assembly characterisation package. This release builds upon the technology developed in the £500k Innovate UK project. They also work closely with Southampton-based CORNERSTONE Photonics Innovation Centre (C-PIC).
