CSA Catapult has put forward eight recommendations to support the UK government's industrial strategy. Our recommendations address current industry challenges and support the government’s growth mission. 1️⃣ Elevate the importance of the semiconductor sector by recognising semiconductors as a subsector of the industrial strategy 2️⃣ Create a National Semiconductor Institute to strengthen, lead and co-ordinate targeted activity across the UK 3️⃣ Co-ordinate long-term skills plans for semiconductors across UK and devolved governments to maintain and grow talent pools 4️⃣ Position the UK as a ‘semiconductor super cluster’ to drive UK growth and exports for the long term by establishing a £305m Semiconductor Challenge Fund 5️⃣ Grow existing semiconductor clusters to develop regional capability and support regional growth 6️⃣ Invest in compound semiconductor manufacturing and infrastructure 7️⃣ Prioritise UK semiconductors in public contracts for digital infrastructure and defence 8️⃣ Increase access to funding, improve regulation and strengthen IP 🔗 Read the full response here: https://lnkd.in/dZmQP2GR Department for Science, Innovation and Technology Department for Business and Trade Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Innovate UK Catapult Network Western Gateway CSconnected Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government Invest Northern Ireland Technology Scotland National Manufacturing Institute Scotland The Scottish Government Wales Office/Swyddfa Cymru Northern Ireland Office #NetZero #Telecoms #CompoundSemiconductors #Semiconductors #Technology #Innovation #IndustrialStrategy

Our vision is for the UK to be a global leader in developing & commercialising applications for compound semiconductors
About us
Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult is the UK’s authority on compound semiconductor applications and commercialisation. The Catapult works with start-ups, SMEs, large organisations and academia to de-risk commercialisation, eliminate barriers to market and accelerate compound semiconductor technologies used in transport, future telecoms, energy distribution, quantum and data centres. (CSA) Catapult was established in 2018 by Innovate UK to help the UK become a global leader in compound semiconductors. We have a world-leading team of experts with the know-how, experience and track record in developing and commercialising compound semiconductor technologies and applications. We bring compound semiconductor applications to life in three key areas: the road to Net Zero, Future Telecoms and intelligent sensing. We are a trusted neutral convener, working with large companies, SMEs, and academia. We help de-risk new innovations and act as a neutral convener, bringing innovators, industry and academia together. CSA Catapult is a not-for-profit organisation headquartered in South Wales with locations in Bristol, the North East and Scotland. We have capabilities in power electronics, advanced packaging, RF & microwave, and photonics. The next wave of emerging applications will have an enormous impact on our lives. Compound semiconductors will enable a host of new and exciting applications in the electrification of transport, clean energy, defence and security and digital communications markets.

Demand for data centres is set to rise exponentially - and the associated energy use would account for 10% of the world's electricity by 2030. Our report demonstrates the critical importance of adopting compound semiconductor technology to manage this. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ghvPpMJW
Power electronics for data centres- a sector that is seeing explosive growth driven by AI demand, and one in which the UK can become a global leader in. According to a recent report from CSA Catapult, compound semiconductors are crucial in managing energy consumption, an increasingly vital concern as data centres could account for up to 10% of global electricity use by 2030. With over 500 data centres, a strong engineering ecosystem, and expertise in compound semiconductors, the UK is well-positioned to lead the development of wide bandgap technologies for the next generation of energy-efficient data centres. #PowerElectronics #DataCentre #Semiconductors #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability

🚀 CSA Catapult has been named one of the winners of the Quantum Missions pilot competition - part of a consortium that has secured a share of £12 million of funding from Innovate UK for our QUDITS2 demonstrator project. 💡 With our partners from Vector Photonics, Phlux Technology and the University of Bristol, we will look to develop a prototype quantum communications system, leveraging advanced photonics using qudits - higher dimensional states that can carry more information, with commercially-available components. ⚛️ This means getting closer than ever to optical links that carry far more data, and making commercially-viable quantum products a reality. 👇 Full story in the comments.
