#VitaeCon2025 call for community content – submit your proposal for the in-person element! 👉 The in-person element of the Vitae International Researcher Development Conference, taking place on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 September at We The Curious in Bristol, UK, will focus on 'Reimagining research careers: navigating changing landscapes'.  Our global strategy for 2025-30 outlines three priorities to support the international research community. We invite submissions which address these three key areas.  We welcome proposals that address: 💡 Understanding the global landscape of careers in research – this theme focuses on understanding diverse career paths within the research landscape and how this informs decision-making at all levels.  💡 Making career and professional development relevant, meaningful and sustainable – this theme emphasises the importance of professional and career development activities being relevant, meaningful and sustainable in the long term.  💡 Championing inclusive and supportive research environments – this theme is concerned with developing and advocating for inclusive and supportive environments that will make careers in research more open, inclusive and rewarding for all.  Proposals must be designed to be engaging for in-person delivery and could be either 30 or 60 minutes in duration. We also invite submissions for in-person posters related to the themes to be showcased at the in-person element of the conference.     ⌚ The deadline to submit for the call for content is Friday 2 May 2025.    See the full information for this call and how to submit: https://lnkd.in/ekNc_zhs

❓ Are you an early career researcher on a fixed-term contract? Early career researchers face challenges such as a lack of permanent employment, which affects their careers and well-being. C-DICE, the Centre for Postdoctoral Development in Infrastructure, Cities, and Energy, is exploring the impacts of fixed-term contracts on early career researchers, to help improve working conditions and support the research community.   ✍ Share your experiences via the anonymous online survey open to all early career researchers in any discipline that are currently or have recently been employed on a fixed-term contract. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday 25 April. Take the survey now: https://lnkd.in/e-r77VqJ

Today, the Black Researcher Consortium (BRC) is launched, a new strategic approach designed by Black researchers and Black-led organisations to tackle the alarming underrepresentation of Black researchers in the UK. Statistics from forthcoming data produced by The Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) Limited and Vitae such as Black staff comprising less than 1% of all professors demonstrate the need for the Consortium, to make progress on the lack of representation for Black researchers. This will be done by bringing together Black-led organisations and community groups, Black early career researchers and researchers in academia and industry, to create an infrastructure which catalyses existing provision.  Clare Viney, the CEO of the Careers, Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC), which manages the Vitae programme, said: “We are proud to be among eight founding collaborators who understand and appreciate the value an organisation of Black researchers for Black researchers will bring to addressing systemic gaps in provision for Black researchers.” The Consortium aims to create a more equitable and inclusive research landscape in the UK, by shining a light on existing provision by Black-led organisations for Black researchers. • The Vitae Research Culture Landscape Survey (RCLS) aimed to capture insights into how staff and doctoral researchers experience and engage with research culture within institutions. A Vitae community working group co-developed a pilot survey in 2023-2024 to assess whether a national survey could provide insights on research culture for institutions and the sector. The survey explored:  💡 The sense of belonging and security for these individuals  💡 The extent of recognition for their work  💡 Their perspectives on research governance and openness  💡 The alignment of institutional priorities with individual experiences. • 💡 Do you have a method for how best to track researcher career paths? 👉 There is a lack of data for the career trajectories of doctoral graduates in the years after they graduate, meaning that an understanding of the UK's R&D ecosystem is not complete. 💡 Vitae are asking for those in the UK research sector to consider the best methods for tracking researcher career pathways, to capture the contribution of researchers to the UK's R&D ecosystem and society. We would like to invite everyone with an interest in tracking doctoral/researcher careers to come together to discuss and collaborate on how best to approach this challenge. If you would like to be involved, please sign up to our researcher career tracking mailing list for updates: https://lnkd.in/eH42TXxZ Find more information on the Vitae website: https://lnkd.in/euuA63bz

  • #VitaeCon2025 call for community content – submit your proposal for the online element! 💡 The online element will explore the theme, 'Rethinking ‘the researcher’: personal and professional values in focus'. For this theme, we invite proposals inspired by the Vitae Researcher Development Framework 2025 and its nine key values for researchers, in line with the launch of the Vitae RDF 2025. 🌟 We encourage you to think creatively and broadly, bearing in mind that proposals must be delivered online either via a live online session or through multimedia content. ✍ Researcher reflections  We also invite submissions from researchers, and those involved in research across all career stages, to submit their reflections on the nine key values for researchers from the Vitae RDF 2025.  Submissions might take the form of a written piece, a short video, creative response (written or visual), or other online content, with these submissions forming a showcase of responses during the online and in-person elements of the conference. ⌚ The deadline for all submissions is Friday 2 May 2025 – so begin brainstorming! We look forward to receiving your submissions. • Vitae are happy to be contributing to this COST Association cross-cutting activity to support young researchers.

Research careers across Europe are frequently characterised by poor working conditions and precarity. We want this to change and our Cross-Cutting Activity on young researchers is here to accelerate the transition. Following it's launch in December the CCA is now up and running with a new Activity Plan and activities ranging from mapping research career strategies to building a network for research career professionals. Learn more as we catch up with CCA Co-Chairs Nicola Dengo and Joanna Rutkowska: https://bit.ly/4l5DEuW With Working Group Chairs Ivana Herglová, Patricia Clement, Mostafa Moonir Shawrav, Naoimh O'Connor, Ahmed Rassili, Stellamarina Donato, Adna Ašić, Verity Elston and COST's Judith Litjens. #COSTactions #ScienceWithoutBorders #YoungResearchers #ResearchCareers

    • "Our vision is to help make Europe a better place for researchers to work and live. We aim to highlight and elevate best practices and successful initiatives that have been developed to address the many challenges researchers face in building a solid and coherent career path, whether in academia or other public and private sectors. By doing this, we can ensure that institutions do not have to ‘reinvent the wheel’ and instead can tap into existing knowledge." Dr Nicola Dengo and Dr Joanna Rutkowska, CCA Co-Chairs
