Before we head off for a well-earned Easter break, we are excited to share UCL’s Annual Sustainability Report for 2023–2024. This year marks the final report under our Change Possible (2019–2024) strategy and it’s a moment to celebrate what we’ve achieved, reflect on the lessons learned and look ahead to an ambitious future. Highlights this year: 🏆 UCL ranked 1st in the UK, 3rd in Europe and 5th globally in the QS Sustainability Rankings, reaffirming our leadership in tackling environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges. 🌍 UCL signed the Concordat for Environmental Sustainability and expanded our LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) to over 100 organisations in 11 countries, driving sustainable lab practices worldwide. 🎓 UCL and the Students' Union UCL hosted the first-ever Sustainability Leadership Conference, bringing together 120 students and 80 academics and industry experts for two days of workshops, panels and networking. ⛰️ UCL and Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK) hosted the first-ever Racial Action for the Climate Emergency Summit, raising awareness of the need for more diverse voices in the environmental sector. ⚡ UCL achieved a 56% reduction in building energy emissions and a 60% decrease in waste per person since 2019–2020. 🌿 UCL’s biodiverse spaces expanded, including the opening of the new outdoor seating area, cycle lane and insect friendly planters at Gordon Square. As we close the chapter on Change Possible, we now look ahead to UCL’s new Sustainability Plan (2025-2035) set to launch this year. 🙌 A huge thank you to our staff, students and partners for your dedication and passion. 📖 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/e6hqbhtW #Sustainability #ClimateAction #NetZero #ESG #ChangePossible #SustainabilityReport UCL Grand Challenges The Bartlett, UCL's Faculty of the Built Environment Mullard Space Science Laboratory UCL News UCL Careers

What a great evening we had in London last Monday for our joint Stockholm Trio Alumni event! Alumni from Karolinska Institutet (KI), Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH) and Stockholms universitet (SU) gathered for an inspiring night of networking and interesting conversations. The evening also featured a panel discussion on Planetary Health, with Agnes N. (KI), Ian Brown SU), Francisco Vilaplana (KTH) and Siobhan Morris (UCL), moderated by Pete Williams (KI), who shared valuable insights from their fields. A big thank you to all the alumni who joined us!

It was a pleasure to welcome the Ministry of Justice UK’s Data First team back to UCL! They shared valuable updates on the expanding range of datasets available for research, including a refreshed overview of how to access them. With recent data updates now linking Civil and Family court data to the existing criminal justice datasets, researchers can explore a broader range of questions than ever before. One of the highlights was their newly published statistical report (March 2025): “Profile of Repeat Offending by Children and Young People in England and Wales.”https://lnkd.in/exXnvMNg This report uses linked datasets to examine patterns of repeat offending among young people—a topic of high policy relevance. By connecting data from criminal courts and offender assessments, the analysis offers fresh insights into the characteristics and needs of young repeat offenders compared to their peers. 📢 Missed the event? We’ve updated our 2024 summary with the latest 2025 materials and presentation: Read it here🔗 https://lnkd.in/eCmkVZc8 UCL Public Policy ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK) Ethne James-Souch Sinéad M. #MinistryofJustice #DataFirst #DataLinkage
