Last week, we had the opportunity to engage in discussions with the European Commission, Members of Parliament, and industry stakeholders in #Brussels to understand and offer support in the EU's strategy to make Europe a sustainable destination. We discussed: ▪️ The EU draft Sustainable Tourism Strategy  ▪️ Implementation of the EU Flight Emissions Label (FEL) to empower passengers to make more informed decisions by providing trusted information about their carbon emissions ▪️ Making train travel easier with the EU Single Ticketing Regulation ▪️ The Green Claims Directive to address greenwashing and the impact on certifications 🌍 It’s clear that meaningful progress can happen when policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators work together. We are grateful to Nikolina Brnjac (EPP, Croatia) for hosting Travalyst, the GBTA | Global Business Travel Association and the World Travel & Tourism Council at the European Parliament for a crucial conversation on the future of travel and tourism - one that can support all environmental, social and economic sustainability. We are proud that our CEO, Sally Davey, alongside Suzanne Neufang and Virginia Messina led this important exchange with the hosting MEP. The event gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to explore the path towards a more sustainable, resilient travel sector. From innovative green technologies to policy frameworks, the discussions reaffirmed the need for balance and consistency across agendas. 🗺️ Representatives from other key industry organisations such as World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, European Travel Commission, eu travel tech and HOTREC – Hotels, Restaurants, Bars & Cafés in Europe as well as operators also reiterated their support for policies that enable innovation, maintain competitiveness, and contribute to a greener future. To this end, we collectively called for: 1. Striking the right balance between Europe’s decarbonisation and competitiveness agendas 2. Aligning EU sustainability frameworks and standards with global industry efforts 3. Today, the European Parliament served as the backdrop for a pivotal discussion on the future of travel and tourism in Europe. The live roundtable event – “A Sustainable Future for Travel and Tourism in Europe” – hosted by MEP Nikolina Brnjac (EPP, Croatia) and was organized by GBTA | Global Business Travel Association, Travalyst, and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and hosted by MEP Nikolina Brnjac (EPP, Croatia). The roundtable brought together industry representatives, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss how the sector can continue to thrive while advancing the EU’s ambitious sustainability goals. Discussion focused on the importance of ensuring the sector remains competitive while aligning with the EU’s decarbonization agenda, and while also addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainable travel. Key industry figures, including Suzanne Neufang (GBTA), Sally Davey (Travalyst), and Virginia Messina (WTTC), highlighted the importance of collaboration between policymakers and the sector with a focus on: - Striking the right balance between Europe’s decarbonization and competitiveness agendas - Aligning EU sustainability frameworks and standards with global industry efforts - Supporting the deployment of sustainable travel options - Additionally, the industry groups asked the European Commission to maintain regular dialogue with industry as it moves forward with the policy initiatives affecting the travel sector in this new legislative term.
