Everyone knows there are too many projects. So why does it still happen? IMHO I'd go with this list as my Top 6: * Some leaders think that pushing in more work drives people to work harder * Saying "no" is seen as career limiting / poor attitude, so people don't * Lack of prioritization approach everyone trusts makes it hard to control intake so there's no "front door" to control the chaos * Business Cases lie. They pretend to be small projects, but turns out they're monsters in disguise, and there is no kill switch to stop them blocking the pipe *Once you have too many projects the issue becomes self-perpetuating as you delivery too slowly - think motorway traffic jam after an accident * People are too accepting of things being rubbish: therefore lack the appetite to make changes / cancel work (even though cool software people say they should 😎) What do others out there think? Gregor Androjna / Dr. Mustafa Hafızoğlu, PgMP, PMP, SIP / Dr. Tony Prensa, ATP, PMP, PMOCP, PMO-CC, CPMOP / Gerald J. Leonard PfMP PMP / Bruno Freitas, MSc, MBA, PMP /Gail Creighton-Davies FGIA, CPPE, MSc, MAICD / Alexander David / Roberto Camanho / Nicole Reilly / Ken Burrell / John McIntyre /David Dunning You are clever folks... can we figure this out?

Does your PMO often feel like a highway that's at 100% capacity? We have a name for that - a traffic jam! Once you go beyond a certain resource utilization rate, traffic slows, until you get gridlock. Keep adding more cars and you don't end up with more people reaching their destination, rather you slow to a standstill. But if you load the road at around 80% everything flows smoothly. The same applies to project teams. So, to keep your projects flowing smoothly you need to plan to do fewer projects, aiming at using only 80-85% of your resources... but how do you choose which projects to focus on and which ones to drop? This blog explores how AI-powered software can help you to prioritize projects (so you know which projects add most value), and then optimize your portfolio selection to maximize value given your resource constraints.
