What a thought-provoking week discussing all things HealthTech!   Kicked off the week with OBN (UK) Ltd BioTrinity 2025 Investor drinks here at Canary Wharf. A room brimming with investors supporting the growth of the global life science ecosystem. Mairi Dillon shared the life sciences vision at Canary Wharf, from the innovators and industry stakeholders already at home across the estate, to the scale of ambition for the future - One North Quay (which you can see being built from the window at Level39)!   It was a pleasure to attend the Tech London Advocates & Global Tech Advocates HealthTech Investor Showcase on Wednesday, hearing from fantastic speakers such as Caroline Cake, Heather Roxborough, Angela Kukula and more. Some key takeaways:   🤝 When building a university spin-out, consider the different environments you'll be operating in on your journey (research vs commercial) and anticipate this early on 🌎 Think about how to enter and access the US market from day 1, to show global impact and bring US investors to the table 🌟 London is a leading city globally for AI and Health 👩🎓 There are approx. 100k students studying science and tech subjects at any one time in London   Thursday we hosted the launch of the London Healthcare Innovation Forum, expertly curated by Skillwork (Jan Gasiewski & Ali Youssef) and team. A full house of like-minded individuals committed to innovation and growth in UK life sciences. Interesting insights from Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (Marinos Ioannides) on the impact of AI in healthcare, improving patient experience, care and outcomes. We also heard the personal and inspiring story from the founder of Enhanced Fertility, Andreia Trigo.   Loved catching up with industry friends and making new connections along the way. It is incredibly encouraging to see that many respondents are focusing on maximizing opportunities related to technological development and digital access. Among the firms surveyed across various regions, 43% indicated that new technology would support their growth ambitions. Additionally, a significant 63% are planning to invest in digital technologies, such as AI, cyber security, and comprehensive digital transformation projects.   Technological innovation and digital adoption continue to present key growth opportunities for businesses everywhere. Given the rapid pace of digital change, it's no surprise that AI has emerged as the top investment priority for privately owned businesses.   For early-stage, rapidly growing businesses, seizing these ideas—regardless of their current lifecycle stage—is critical for sustainable growth. The funding raised in the UK in Q4 2024 has boosted optimism among investors and founders looking ahead to 2025. Many predict that technology will remain at the forefront of investment opportunities.   However, it's important to consider the potential for caution. Some analysts highlight that both global and domestic events, such as the UK Budget measures and the new US President taking office, could still contribute to a level of investor caution.
