Since 2017, we’ve been dedicated to providing accessible opportunities for creative workshops and theatre productions. One of our core values is to ensure young people can attend the theatre without financial barriers. FREE TICKET OFFERS 4th July - The Feeling (of knowing something is wrong, but it isn’t) 2 & 7 pm Mayflower Studios “The Feeling” has been devised by a female and non-binary creative team, alongside 100’s of voices across a large spectrum of people and cultures across Southampton. Built into the script is verbatim from a series of focus groups including: men, the LGBTQ+ community, those who have suffered with infertility, young people going through puberty and women going through or who have been through menopause. We aim to increase understanding around female reproductive health care and LGBTQA+ health care inequities, as well as generate discussion around the language and reform we can use to make healthcare in Southampton and England not just accessible, but equal to all. FREELANCE OPPORTUNITY 📢 Southampton Cultural Education Partnership (SCEP) is seeking an experienced cultural education consultant to run the SCEP and work with our Steering Group and members to support the development of partnership working across the cultural and education sectors in Southampton. This contract is offered on a flexible basis, however some evening and weekend work will be required, as well as work during school holidays. The ability to work in-person in Southampton is also required. Our new SCEP Lead will work with us for a minimum of fourteen months. Tenders must be submitted by Friday 21 March. Yesterday there was a question in the HoL on Creative Education. The Minister of State for Education (Baroness Smith) was asked to address a number of points on government's plans and ambitions to ensure every child and young person has access to arts and culture - with a particular emphasis on school trips and visits. The Minister referenced the Curriculum and Assessment Review (due to give us an interim report imminently), the Arts Council England Review and the need to fix the Special Educational Needs (SEND) system in her responses. She also agreed that DCMS and DfE must work together on this. You can have a read here: https://lnkd.in/eyh-a7R5 'My noble friend rightly identifies that there has been a decline in student entries into, for example, the arts and creative GCSEs, a reduction in the number of staff available to teach them, and a fall-off in the ability of schools to support students with visits and the type of experiences that she rightly outlines. That is why it is so important for this Government that we ensure that creative subjects such as art, music and drama are important elements of the education that every child deserves, and that we do better in ensuring that culture is an essential part of supporting children and young people.'
