Ever wonder why some facilities consistently outperform others? The secret isn't working harder, it's working smarter with AI. We've helped multiple MRFs implement Computer Vision solutions, and they all ask the same question: "Is this going to be complicated?" 🫠 Our answer every time: not with the right partner and if you ask the right questions. Our approach has facilities up and running in under a month, seeing major improvements in recovery rates and reduction in contamination. But we know the whole process can still be intimidating, so we have put together a guide to help you implement Computer Vision in your MRF... stress-free. Link below 👇. What's your biggest AI, Robotics or Computer Vision concern right now? Drop it in the comments, and we'll answer it. #WasteManagement #AI #Recycling #ComputerVision

Did you know that AI could help you uncover new revenue streams in your MRF? That’s what two of our customers experienced when they started using Sorted. With thousands of tons of waste going through their MRFs every year, identifying every shift in material composition as it happens was challenging, resulting in missing out on potential extra revenue. And in a context where MRFs are under significant pressure to increase profitability, missing these opportunities adds avoidable pressure. Thanks to our insights, Suez successfully introduced a new Eddy current to recover missing ali cans, while The NWH Group quickly seized the opportunity to extract aluminium cans and hard plastics (mainly HDPE and PET). The result? Higher recovery rates and a substantial boost to their bottom line. This could be your story too. Get in touch to learn how AI can help you improve your recovery rates. #WasteManagement #Recycling #AI

Dear pancake lovers, I know today is a special day. You've taken out your best pan to make yourself some well-deserved pancakes. You might have burnt one or two and just noticed that the pan you promised to toss last year is still hanging around. Resist the urge. PUT - THE PAN - DOWN. Step away from that recycling bin. 🔁 Repeat after me: Old pans cannot be recycled at home. They do not belong in your recycling bin! When old pans end up with your recyclables, they: ❌ damage recycling facility equipment. ❌ pose a risk of injury to workers. ❌ contaminate other recyclables, making recycling less effective and more costly. Instead, here’s what you should do: ✅ Still usable? Sell them, donate them to charity shops or shelters, or use apps like Olio. ✅ Too damaged? Check retailers' or pan brands' cookware recycling schemes or directly take them to your local recycling centre. 🚫 As a last resort, if no other options are available, dispose of them with general waste. Well done! Now go and enjoy your pancakes! MRF workers thank you, they won’t have to pull yet another pan from the conveyor belt! Yours truly, Sorted, the RecAIcler #PancakeDay #ShroveTuesday #Recycling #Sustainability #WasteManagement #RecyclingTips

“A circular economy for plastics is not possible without recycling.” In case you missed it, Martyn Tickner, Chief Advisor of Circular Solutions at the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, and Arun Rajamani, Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), recently spoke with Innovation News Network about the critical role of mechanical recycling in advancing circular solutions for plastics. ♻️ Here’s our 1-min digest: Mixed plastic waste presents significant challenges, but mechanical recycling is proving to be a scalable and cost-effective solution. ✅ Mechanical recycling creates value from waste, especially in regions with developing waste management systems, by offering a cost-effective way to recover plastic waste. ✅ It enhances recycling financial viability by enabling the production of valuable second-life products without requiring extensive financial incentives. ✅ Collaboration, especially through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), is critical to recycling success, playing a vital role in securing reliable feedstock supply and scaling recycling solutions globally. ✅ Infrastructure and incentives are essential for long-term success; collection, sorting, and processing must be properly supported. “Basic recycling is a way to kickstart a recycling economy – it doesn’t need complex supportive legislations and economic interventions – and can be driven by local entrepreneurs ahead of the strong government support that is required to accelerate the transition to circular solutions.” ♻️ What are the biggest challenges you see in scaling mechanical recycling? Let’s discuss! #Recycling #CircularEconomy #PlasticWaste

If the buzz from Paris' AI Action Summit wasn’t enough to satisfy your curiosAIty, we’ve got more for you. Do you know why AI is set to be one of the most transformative technologies for the recycling industry and MRFs? We’ve broken down the top 5 reasons AI can transform your MRF operations 👇 🔹 It’s more accurate, improving recycling efficiency. ↳ Once fully trained on your specific use case, AI models can achieve over 95% accuracy, ensuring materials are identified and labeled in seconds. This leads to more precise sorting, higher recovery rates, and improved purity. 🔹 It’s not just about material types. ↳ AI and computer vision don’t just recognise materials, they analyse item aspects, distinguishing between items of the same material but different values (e.g. aluminium cans vs. aluminium foil). 🔹 It solves the black plastic challenge. ↳ Unlike traditional sorting methods, AI accurately detects materials regardless of colour, making it easier to sort black plastics and other historically difficult materials. 🔹 It adapts fast and with no adjustments, making it future-proof. ↳ AI continuously learns and adapts to changes in material composition without the need for costly reconfigurations. Your MRF stays flexible, with AI-driven sorting adjusting instantly as material streams evolve. 🔹 It’s not just about sorting, it’s also about optimising. ↳ AI-powered reporting processes large volumes of data quickly, optimising performance, enhancing quality control, and identifying new profitable sorting streams, ensuring you never miss an opportunity. AI isn't just a short-lived trend, it's powering better recycling systems, higher recovery rates, and our essential transition to a circular economy. What excites you most about AI’s potential for recycling? ♻️ #AI #circulareconomy #recycling
