It was a pleasure to attend 3M’s recent channel partner summit in Wroclaw, Poland, where our Group CEO Franck Voisin presented on the key trends in European manufacturing: ↗️ Automation ↗️ Digital and Industry 4.0 ↗️ ESG ↗️ Heath & safety ↗️ Supply chain ↗️ Talent & skills He also set out what it takes for our suppliers to capture the growth opportunity in European MRO, which is significant but can be difficult to access. It requires them to shift volumes into the indirect channel and to consolidate distributor relationships with scale players that offer specialist knowledge and technical expertise. During the event, we were were delighted to receive 3M’s eCommerce accelerator award. It recognises the outstanding efforts of our digital marketing teams in enhancing 3M’s presence on our web shops and in developing effective e-commerce strategies. Sophisticated digital behavioural programmes combining cross-sell and win-back campaigns provide perfect examples of how to drive additional sales. Congratulations to Cecilia Chemin, Guillaume Allimant, Lee Pruitt, Raphaël BOUTAUD and Spencer Brown for the excellent work and well-deserved recognition. We look forward to further developing our partnership with 3M into the future.

As part our growth strategy we have reached an agreement to acquire ERIKS UK & Ireland. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and we expect it to complete within the calendar year, once these approvals have been obtained. ERIKS UK & Ireland is a well-recognised and respected industrial distributor with a specialist flow technology offer, including hoses, valves, sealing and gaskets, as well as associated technical services such as customisation and repair. This complementary acquisition brings together two multi-specialists, offering a broad range of products and services, while extending our offer in flow technology.

For more than 15 years 3M has been a valued partner to Rubix across Europe. Our businesses have worked together closely in meeting the daily needs of customers while supporting their longer term transformation projects.   With 3M we share a commitment to providing high quality products appropriate for the application, always supported by specialist knowledge and technical expertise.   This year, 3M celebrates 100 years of Scotch™ Brand innovation. The 3M innovation engine actually started 125 years ago with 3M Abrasive paper in 1902 before Scotch Masking Tape came to the market in 1925.    Today 3M brands have expanded to offer over 50,000 different products and the spirit of innovation continues.    In the Personal Protective Equipment category, 3M has created the first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), for disposable respiratory masks 3M™ Aura™ in order to improve transparency on its CO2 Carbon footprint. 3M™ Aura™ Particulate Respirators 9312+, 9322+ and 9332+ contain at least 25 % pre-consumer recycled content since April 2024.    In the Abrasives category, 3M™ Cubitron™ 3 Fibre Discs help to increase production and reduce costs. Up to 60% sustained and faster cutting speed with more total material removed thanks to precision-shaped grains.   In Tapes & Adhesives the new 3M™ VHB™ Tapes create a durable bond that actually strengthens over time, eliminating the need for visible and cumbersome fasteners like screws and bolts.   3M integrates sustainability into every new product and is dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality, reducing water consumption, and improving water quality. A great last mile starts with a strong first mile. In any discussion about supply chain and logistics there’s a lot of focus on the last mile. It seems all-important because it touches the end user. Featuring in SRM Today, our Group VP Supply Chain & Logistics Amir Wagenstein suggests that equal attention must be given to first mile operations given the growing demand for greater transparency in delivery progress, and the need to optimise logistics costs. We extended our stay in Paris, following the annual leadership meeting, to welcome our supplier partners for a dedicated event hosted by Group CEO Franck Voisin and Group VP Category Management Spencer Brown.   As the market continues to evolve, we reflected on the importance of strong relationships for meeting the needs of our shared customers and committed to even closer collaboration for the coming weeks, months and years.   High on the agenda was the growing trend for suppliers to switch volumes into the indirect channel; an area where our unmatched scale offers the potential to simplify access to the growth opportunity in Europe, which is attractive but challenging to access without the right partner.   We also saw appetite from suppliers for consolidating distributor relationships. As a way to further simplify their businesses, they have a preference for distributors with the footprint to match their customer base, and with the knowledge and expertise to represent their brands and products in the market, further supporting our value proposition.   Demonstrating our scale and reach, we embarked on an intense 24 hours of speed-dating sessions. These were an opportunity for suppliers to meet the leadership teams from each of our major markets alongside dedicated sessions covering salesforce effectiveness, supply chain & logistics and digital & marketing.   There was – of course – time for informal networking over a drinks reception and dinner, as well as coffee, breakfast and lunch.

This week the senior leadership team gathered at Château de Guermantes, just outside Paris, for its annual meeting. Opening Gears of Growth 2025, our Group CEO Franck Voisin reflected on the progress we have made in disrupting the traditional model of industrial distribution, putting our scale to good use in growing the business and demonstrating resilience in the face of a challenging operating environment. As we look to the future, we are making our scale count in taking market share, working with suppliers to meet the day-to-day needs of customers while supporting their longer-term transformation efforts. Across five workshop sessions, each led by a Rubix market, our colleagues heard best practice from the best in the business. We had external inspiration from the CEO of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Etienne Thobois OLY. Sharing his experience of leading a complex, multi-layered and high-profile "project" under the very brightest of public spotlights, he set out what it takes to align a large team behind a single vision and mission to deliver a consistent experience across multiple sites. We were joined by our Chairman Johan Sleebus and Joshua Greenspan of Advent International (our owner) who gave their invaluable perspectives on our progress and priorities. Importantly, we took time to recognise some outstanding individual contributions over the past year, as well as presenting the coveted company of the year awards, which went to the Benelux and Nordics businesses.

Writing for Industrial Distribution Magazine, our Chief Digital & Marketing Officer Lee Pruitt highlights the growing trend of suppliers shifting volumes into the distributor channel as they seek to capitalise on the significant opportunity in European MRO.   Although the market is larger than in the US, it’s more complex to access. By prioritising scale distributors, suppliers benefit from simple and efficient access to the growth potential that Europe offers.    It's a move that we expect will fuel consolidation in European industrial distribution - where the top five players have a share of less than 8% - just as it has done in the US historically, which is now at more than 30%.
