In our last post, we imagined what it would be like to work in a Victorian-era office. But then came the Edwardian era, and gone were the oppressive interiors and overwhelming clutter! 👋 Imagine this: It's the early 1900s, you wake up, get dressed, and step into the office, ready for another day of work. But this isn’t the dark, cramped world of the Victorian era. Instead, natural light streams through larger, well-placed windows, illuminating the room with a warm glow. The air feels fresher, the space less suffocating. Desks, though still arranged in an orderly fashion, allow for a more open feel, no longer crammed into every available corner. Filing cabinets, a relatively new innovation, help declutter the workspace, keeping important documents stored neatly instead of piling up on desks. The furniture, though still crafted with care, is lighter and more functional, incorporating oak and mahogany with simpler, elegant designs that replace the excessively heavy and ornate Victorian pieces. In a sign of the times, early typewriters hum softly, replacing the scratch of quills on parchment. 🤨 The question is—would you thrive in this structured yet evolving office? ••• #PattrnWorkspace #OfficeDesign #CommercialOffice #FurnitureDesign #ModernFurniture #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceDesign #EdwardianPeriod

⏳ Ever feel like your workdays drag on endlessly, each hour stretching longer than it should? Well, it’s not just in your head—your office design might be affecting how you perceive time. Harsh fluorescent lighting creates a static atmosphere, making it harder to sense the natural progression of the day, while natural light exposure helps regulate circadian rhythms, making time feel more fluid. But it’s not just lighting—monotony plays a role, too. A grey, repetitive office with little visual variety can make time crawl, whereas adding textures, colours, and even plants can create a more dynamic environment that keeps your brain engaged. Desk arrangement matters as well. Sitting in isolated cubicles or facing a blank wall can make time feel endless, while open layouts with subtle movement cues help break up the day. Even sound influences time perception—dead silence or constant background hums can make hours drag, whereas curated soundscapes or subtle background music can add a sense of rhythm to the workday. And finally, movement is key. Staying seated in one spot for hours makes time feel sluggish, but walking paths, standing desks, or breakout spaces encourage small shifts that prevent stagnation. So, you see, it’s not just you. With strategic office design, we can make your 9-5 feel like a half-day. Born from the mind of Arne Jacobsen, the Drop chair emerged as a symbol of modernity within the renowned design of the SAS Royal Hotel in 1960. A quiet revolution in form, it was initially reserved for the hotel’s exclusive spaces—its elegant silhouette gracing dressing tables and corners, exuding understated luxury. Unlike the more widely known Egg or Swan chairs, the Drop remained a secret for many years, a limited series confined to the hotel’s walls. Yet, in 2014, Fritz Hansen breathed new life into this iconic creation, reintroducing it to the world. With its simple, organic curves and quiet grace, the Drop chair was made for the modern environment it once inhabited. A soft yet commanding presence, its shape speaks of a time when design didn’t shout, but whispered sophistication and timelessness. Like a piece of functional art, the Drop is not merely a chair—it’s a symbol of how Arne Jacobsen’s genius transformed everyday spaces into expressions of beauty and purpose. A classic in every sense, it’s a seat that has stood the test of time, now gracing homes and offices with the same elegance it once lent to the halls of the SAS Royal Hotel. ••• #PattrnWorkspace #OfficeDesign #CommercialOffice #FurnitureDesign #ModernFurniture #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceDesign #ArneJacobson

🌷 Eero Saarinen’s design of the Tulip Chair tells a story of frustration and innovation. In the 1950s, Saarinen was fed up with the "clutter" of traditional furniture—especially chairs with four legs that seemed to crowd spaces and create visual chaos. He wanted to design something that would make a room feel more open, less cramped, and more refined. ☝️The answer was simple: eliminate the legs entirely. By creating a single, continuous pedestal base that connected directly to the seat, Saarinen's goal was to create a chair that felt light, airy, and easy on the eye. It wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about creating a sense of freedom and fluidity in the space. He believed that design should do more than look good—it should also serve a purpose. Soon enough, the Tulip Chair became a symbol of modernity and thoughtful design, and it remains a powerful example of how one piece of furniture can change the way we think about our environments. ••• #PattrnWorkspace #OfficeDesign #CommercialOffice #FurnitureDesign #ModernFurniture #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceDesign #TulipChair #EeroSaarinen

🧐 Imagine stepping into an office from the Victorian era. The first thing you’d notice? A massive, heavy wooden desk, so large it feels like you could host a banquet on it. Piles of paper and ink wells scattered around, ready for a quill pen, though you’re lucky enough to have the new-fangled typewriter buzzing away. The lighting? Gas lamps or early electric bulbs casting a dim, flickering glow, leaving you squinting at your work. The chairs? High-backed, ornate armchairs that scream "royalty," but after an hour of sitting, your back’s begging for a change. You’re typing away on the typewriter, feeling every click and clack of the keys. Filing cabinets are stacked high, requiring some muscle to open, and documents are tucked away in stacks, just out of reach. Posture is everything—after all, Victorian office culture demands you maintain a stiff, proper demeanour, no matter how uncomfortable you feel. By lunchtime, you’re longing for an ergonomic chair and a desk with a screen. But instead, you’re surrounded by style over comfort, with an atmosphere more suited to a museum than a modern workspace. Would you survive a full workday in a Victorian office, or would your back give out before you could even finish your first report? ••• #PattrnWorkspace #OfficeDesign #CommercialOffice #FurnitureDesign #ModernFurniture #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceDesign #VictorianDesign #Trends
