The MCB warmly welcome the historic appointment of Dr Mumtaz Patel as the next President of the Royal College of Physicians — the first woman and the first person from an ethnic minority background to hold this prestigious role in the College’s 505-year history. As British Muslims, this moment represents far more than just a milestone in medicine. It’s a powerful symbol of progress — showing that leadership in public life is becoming more inclusive, and that talent, dedication, and service are being recognised regardless of background. Her achievement contributes to a wider journey of representation, equity, and shared belonging in Britain today. We wish her every success as she takes on this important role shaping a more inclusive and resilient future for healthcare. https://loom.ly/lA0rF4M #Leadership #Inclusion #RCP #Diversity

Yesterday, at least 85 graves in the Muslim section of Carpenders Park Cemetery - mainly belonging to babies and young children- were desecrated in what appears to be an Islamophobic attack. For many of us, this is where our loved ones are laid to rest. We urge that this be met with the full weight of accountability - and formally recognised for what it is: a targeted act of hate. @BrentCouncil Our communities need reassurance that these acts are not ignored. That dignity, even in death, is protected.

The #BinStrike in Birmingham is the result of a pay dispute between the council and our hardworking refuse workers. Yet, predictably, some have chosen to scapegoat Muslims - using this moment to spread Islamophobia and false information. In the meantime, local mosques, imams, and community volunteers have stepped up to clean the streets - showing unity, pride, and care for their neighbourhoods. 💚 🧹 Green Lane Masjid & Community Centre Birmingham Central Mosque

📢 PM urged to address housing needs of our ageing population 📢 As we face one of the most significant demographic shifts in decades, the Housing and Ageing Alliance (HAA) has written to the Prime Minister, calling for the upcoming Housing Strategy to take bold, decisive action on housing for older people. With support from organisations like Age UK, Centre for Ageing Better, Chartered Institute of Housing, NHF, ARCO, and more, the letter urges Government to prioritise: 🏡 More specialist and adaptable homes 🏘️ Improved mainstream and community-led housing 📐 Better planning, design, and digital innovation ℹ️ Access to advice and information 👥 Stronger leadership and cross-sector collaboration These recommendations are rooted in the work of the Older People’s Housing Taskforce, which laid out a clear path to create affordable, lifelong homes that support independence and wellbeing in later life. It’s time for housing policy to catch up with the needs of our ageing population. The evidence—and the urgency—are clear. 📄 Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/ewDuvwdU #HousingStrategy #AgeingWell #LaterLifeLiving #InclusiveDesign #PolicyChange #OlderPeople #SocialImpact #HousingInnovation #HAA

🌟Over 70 passionate Brummie Muslims all walks of life across the city came together for the Muslim Council of Britain’s first-ever Town Hall meeting – and what a powerful conversation it was. 💡From students to professionals, academics to activists, women and youth – our community showed up to share their hopes, frustrations, and ideas for building stronger and more inclusive Muslim communities in Britain. Together, we explored the key pillars of MCB’s Vision 2050 — a bold roadmap for British Muslims focused on: ✅ Growing strong, accountable leadership ✅ Tackling Islamophobia ✅ Financial and educational empowerment ✅ Civic engagement and reform Faith, unity, and action have always been part of our community’s strength, but talk alone isn’t enough. What we need now is real, lasting change: let’s work together to make it happen. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and especially to Dr Muhammad Wajid Akhter, our Secretary-General, for his open and honest conversation with the community. 📍More Regional Town Halls are coming soon: Walsall – May 10th West London – May (TBC) Want to have your say? https://lnkd.in/ehp3S4f8
