Mental ill health affects 1 in 4 of us. It is the single largest cause of disability in the UK, contributing up to 22.8% of the total burden, compared to 15.9% for cancer and 16.2% for cardiovascular disease. The World Health Organisation projects that, by 2030, mental ill health (particularly depression) will be the leading cause of mortality and morbidity globally. UK funding for this health crisis is failing the nation. Mental health research sees only 2.7% of funding and without research, it's just guesswork. This is why this year MQ is teaming up with Big Give to match each gift we receive between the 14th and 28th May. That’s the double the amount of money given to researchers to create the next breakthrough in mental health research, and that’s double the opportunity to help millions of people worldwide. You can help us with our goal by visiting the Big Give website and donating what you can. With each pound, we can help create a world where mental illness is better understood, diagnosed, treated and, maybe someday, prevented. #MentalHealthBreakthrough https://lnkd.in/gH-cTvQr

Supporting mental health research so that we can better understand, treat and one day prevent mental illness.
About us
For the last 10 years MQ has funded ground-breaking research into mental health. Our vision is simple: to create a world where mental illness is understood, effectively treated, and ultimately prevented. With the help of our supporters and a global network of leading scientists we can make this a reality. Together we are championing and funding research into mental health that will change millions of lives. Our story: Right now, one in four people in the UK is living with a mental health condition. That’s nearly 15 million people with an illness that affects their wellbeing, their relationships with family and friends, and their ability to work. For many the experience can be painful, exhausting and isolating. Despite extraordinary advances in treating physical health conditions, progress in understanding mental illness, and research into its causes, treatments and prevention, is nowhere near equal. In fact it falls woefully short, leaving millions of people worldwide without the help and support they need. We’re here to change that. We are the first major charity funding much-needed scientific research to transform the lives of everyone affected by mental illness. And with our community of supporters and an international network of talented researchers we can make this a reality. #WithoutResearchItsJustGuesswork
